I just listened but was at work so didn't give it 100% concentration but from the song snippets I heard it sounds very promising. Check the Record sounded awesome.

Also Stand up and b strong sounded great.

I think this could be at least as good as Lotusflower.

If there is, then I missed it. I just quickly browsed through the podcast though...

Dont think they played any of that. Stand up and be Strong surprised me the most, because that seemed to be the weakest track acording to reviews so far. And i thought it sounded great.

I like what I'm hearing in the podcast. Firstly, it's nice they do a podcast for a later 'new' prince album and talk to some fresh people who worked with prince later on.

Second, the songs sound good. cool

It probably isn't going to be a great album from what i heard so far.

But i'm just thrilled there is a new album.

I'm always thrilled when there is a new Prince album.

And that feeling started in 1984, and it actually never stopped.

Sure albums were fantastic or mediocre, but always the same feeling.

Excitement!

Bits and pieces here and there to be heard, advertisement, some talk, some articles.

Could this be his more vocal focust album ? Not to say sort of a gospel album ?

-

So this album possibly got more attention from Prince than the planned 20TEN Deluxe that was postponed somewhere at the end of 2010.

-

Getting more curious to hear it now.

I'm just bothered it is released with so much unneeded parafernalia.

Did they put the Welcome 2 America Tourbook in the package ?

Forty minutes of mindnumbingly boring and trivial non-"stories". Told as if these were exciting and worldchanging events. Back-up singers rehearse! People stay in hotels! At one point Andrea Swensson urges them to tell the wild stories from the hotel and there is nothing. Yet everybody sounds incomprehensibly excited.

.

And next week: politics! Ooh boy...

Gotta love the insecurity of Prince famz who cannot stand any criticism.

This has got me so pumped for the record. I think all of the snippets sound great. 1010 sounds the most interesting to me so far. And I love how different 1,000 Light Years From Here and When She Comes sound.

What a gift it is to be able to receive so much "new" Prince music even though he's gone. I think we all hoped it would be the case, knowing how much music is in the vault, and here we are on vault release number 6 (with number 7 possibly coming later this year), in 5 years. None of them are perfect, and as diehards, we will always want more, but it takes some of the sting out of losing him to be able to continue to receive his music, and to be able to explore his fascinating mind and musical genius.

I agree with Bart.

The only thing i listened to it for was the music. The silly backslapping was mind numbing and clearly there to fill out the time

I agree. It's the one song that has been criticized in a few reviews so far.

But Number 23 picked out as one of his favourites

I like the fact that he chose this song to express his emotions about getting older, increasingly irrelevant to popular music audiences and his decent into painkiller abuse. We were never going to get a middle aged ‘Wally’ - but who knows what lies in the Vault? With SU&BS, musically speaking I can understand why some people feel it’s like eating three baked potatoes with a pile of mature cheddar followed by two or three Curly Wurlys. But it’s deliberate - Prince knew what saccharine was. He loved it. He trolled with it even lol. But here I think he’s masking with it - if this was as raw as I would love it to have been, just P and the piano, it would have given too much away. Here, he can tell the truth without having to own it.

Interesting take.
.
The other thing that struck me with the snippets was Running Game (Son Of A Slave Master) sounded musically reminiscent of When Will We Be Paid
.
And one more other thing; I forgot how much I love Shelby's rap on Same Page, Different Book. Yes I said it

I should preface my statement(s) thus far by saying, I had really grown to not like a lot of Prince's production and sound in the last 10-15 years of his career. It was flattened, compressed, acrylic. The organic nature of The Rainbow Children seems to have been gentrified on later albums. There are remote gems here and there, but overall I think people gravitate toward anything before 1996 for a reason, more than someone's humming "The Word" or "Chocolate Box."

Often, listening to something like this podcast, or watching a TV show about the songs, is what burgeons, in me, an interest in music. It's not always just the artist. It's the stories.

Hearing how these songs came together, hearing the stories of the vocals on "Yes" or the bass fills on the title track - those are interesting moments. It pulls me into hear more.

And while some of the production still has a tinge of that flatness, the albums is certainly more organic in the way it was built with the trio, then other people and things added later.

So as I'm often hesitant AF to hear new Prince music like this (opposed to older stuff coming out as 'new'), I am anxious to sit and listen to this record, and hear where Prince was eleven years ago while bouncing around Paisley Park with his friends, making tunes, touring around, and generally being Prince.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

From what i have heard so far, it seems like a record you can sit back with your headphones on and relax and take it in and enjoy. Whatever you think of shelby and the others , those harmonies sound on point and classy.

I listened to the Podcast. So far I like the organic sound and the concept (with the trio) how the songs were structured and started instrumentally with musicians who did not know the lyrics (and music) when they played. And prince giving them the freedom. Some interesting songs I think. I assume Prince decided he would only perform the songs and promote the songs with these musicians on stage and not with the ultimate 2010 band. I really like Prince 2010 output and live concerts.
