Borrowed, as in sampled? Or recreated to sound like the great Betty Davis? Great info Woogiebear. You didn’t happen to be involved in any of the recordings on Controversy, did you, e.g. backing singing? I was WAY TOO YOUNG! As a 13 Year-Old, I bought the Controversy Album the Day b4 Thanksgiving 1981. I bought The Time's 1st Album the Day AFTER Thanksgiving 1981! P did not Sample it. He "Borrowed" it and made it His own. Another Negro History Lesson: When I saw the Cover of Betty Davis' "Nasty Gal" Album, I IMMEDIATELY said "Vanity"

Exactly.Another cool thing about this era: the masses hadn't caught on yet.Prince was still sort of an "underground" artist at this point.It was fun to watch him develop.He was raw and hungry! | |
