I recall some altercation at a Paisley Park meeting with Prince and fams led to Eileen discontinuing this magazine. Anyone know what happened. It was a great magazine and she also had a information phone line

I think it was about Prince starting his own fan club and magazine. But dont know for sure.

I must have some of those old Controversy mags about somewhere. Good times.

Eileen Murton had previously arranged at least one visit to Minneapolis but events there did not directly lead to the closure of the magazine. The decision to close reportedly followed attempts to 'recruit' Controversy members to a Prince-led operation, but in a way that was seen as less than open. This occurred around the time of the Wembley Stadium appearance in 1993:

I think think the estate holds and copyright to those magazines (maybe some of the photos), but the people who put it out probably do.

Reminds me of one thing: wasn't the new (Michael/Sonny/Tommy/Morris/Mayte) NPG lineup briefley called 10,000 for a very short time (I believe, at least, for their first live gig at the Paisley Park Beautiful Experience) before being called the NPG again?

If so, it means P briefley considered the NPG to be only the 1991-93 line-up, and that he may have come-up with new names for each new incarnation of the band after that. Can you imagine Exodus credited to 10,000 instead of the NPG?

I went to that show thinking it was going to be a new band, but I was like the only thing that changed was Levi and Tony, Damon, and Kirk were out. No one mentioned 10,000 being the name of the band that night. The show wasn't advertised to the general public, so not sure where that came from, but I do remember hearing that. They did have the magazine for sale that night.

I'd have to check but I suspect that info came from Uptown Mag, their report of TBE concert. I don't see where else I could have read this at the time.

Yep, I still have my copies of this great magazine, as previously stated, I think prince was trying to jump in on the fanbase of the magazine. Eileen was consistant in her output and magazine. Prince was never really that when it came to fan clubs etc and it was a great loss when controversy ended. His loss.....
