a prince covers album

Some of my favourite prince songs from the last two decades were actually not his own songs. Eg case of u, stand up n b strong, one of us, best of you. I wish he did a studio version of best of you.

It's a shame he will never do a covers album like Dylan did later in his life.

If the estate compiled a covers album from what's already out there though, what should be on it?

There was a studio version of "Best Of You"; Howard Stern played some of it before the Super Bowl performance. Sadly he talked over a lot of it. Really wish the estate would release it.

And any covers compilation needs "ANOTHERLOVE". One of my favorite songs he released in the 2010s.

Strive

TIL that Prince covered The Middle by Jimmy Eat World and he did it with different lyrics like Stand Up And B Strong. (And it wasn't Liv on lead vox like Princevault says)

That's a bizarre thing to think that there could be a studio version in the vault somewhere.

i love anotherlove, he really made it a prince song, but wish he didnt add that spoken bit in the middle.

the original is really good too.

He performed some Cars songs in concert, like Let's Go. Would be awesome if there's a studio version of that.

Since Undertaker was never released, you could include Honky Tonk Blues as well.

Even "What If" (the Christian song) is a cover -- although I don't know if it'd be welcome on a covers album?

i think 94/95 was when prince really started working in a LOT of covers into his shows.

all those pre-gold exp shows, when he was doing hair and the jam etc, after that, he seemed to get more and more into doing covers of old 60s and 70s songs he liked when he was younger.

then from 98 or so, there were even more, with all those sly songs he was doing.

and then you look at the musicology tour, and then the w2a tour, when he was doing massive 70s nostalgia medleys (at least on the show on the blu ray), it never quite stopped.

i think he seemed to enjoy doing these songs from other/older artists more than his own old songs sometimes.
