"MNIP" Smashed Guitar For Sale Came on here to check to see if anyone was talking about this, as I've seen previous org threads for Prince related auctions, but couldn't find one for this. Thought I would make one myself. Thoughts??The description says Prince played it, but I don't recall seeing him play this guitar at all. There's some other interesting Prince stuff listed on there too.

. not really. strat bodies are multiple pieces of wood. hit it just right and hard enough you could break it right on the seam where its glued. |

What I am suggesting is that it might have been treated beforehand to break that way. It's not uncommon for guitars that are to be smashed in music videos to be deliberately weakened in some way, so that the director can get the shot that they want of it breaking. Or maybe, as savagedreams said, the cleanness of the break is to do with the way that model of strat is constructed. It's been too long since you've had your ass kicked properly:

Back in the day, our guitarist wanted to smash an old guitar at the end of our set, so he scored the back of it at differend angles with shallow circular saw cuts. The thing "exploded" on first impact with the stage!

No one will miss that guitar . . . it's pretty generic, and a small footnote in Prince's history. If the money helps keep the Estate or PP going, even better. |
