Welcome 2 America Tour... 3 Keyboardist and 21 Nite stand?

For those that attended these Concerts, especially musicians, What was it like having 3 Keyboardist in the line up? Very Rare for Prince to use 3 Keyboardist, wonder what was his thinking in doing so?

And the CA stand says 21 Nite Stand but it shows only 18 including (15 in Inglewood, 1 in Fresno and 2 in San Jose)... So why is it called as 21 Nite Stand? eye

.

The concerts were often a complete bust audience-wise (the one on the Blu-ray was one of those), and thus they never got to the 21 nights and then decided to justify it by counting other concerts in the area, including even a TV performance and aftershows.

Prince did 21 nights in London and played at many of the aftershows. That's not referred to as 30 nights in London, or whatever it was with the aftershow tally. So I don't think we would count an aftershow in a residency labelled as xx nights. If it was xx shows in a place, then yeah, we would count them.

In London the original plan wasn't to do 21 nights at the O2, it was 21 nights in London and they announced some O2 dates. I believe the intention was to do smaller venues later but the O2 shows kept selling. So counting smaller venues on different nights in the list is fine but not aftershows.

RIP sad

The show wasn't a sell-out show. In fact, they ended up dropping the ticket price before the concert because they had so many unsold tickets.

.

Why bother with facts, right? http://www.princevault.co...pril_2011

.

With tickets going on sale for this show only two days before showtime, tickets were far from sold out. Only a few thousand people made it to the Forum. Around 9 PM, there were so much tickets left they started selling them for $10 at the Forum Box office.

.

The colonnade section of the Forum was shut off and patrons who had tickets there were upgraded to sections closer to the stage.

.

FYI that venue seats 17,500. So "a few thousand people" is gonna make that venue look pretty empty. Hence the shenanigans.

Interesting observation re the 3 keys players - I'd be interested to know what anyone musically inclined hears/thinks in terms of what the extra player brings to the table. AFAIK Morris Hayes was kinda hidden away on this tour, Prince possibly wanted some spotlight on Cassie.

The other time I noted the 3 keyboard players was during the Musicology era, some of the TV shows had Renato, Chance Howard, and an Asian lady called RAD (she didnt last the entire tour).

I'm sure that Morris has always been around the Prince camp in one way or another post 90's, so even when not in the touring band, possibly producing, but I think he also only joined in part of the Montreux '09 show, so not sure what was going on. I always associate the classic Prince live sound with 2 keys players, however, interestingly the One Night Alone tour was just Renato, and then that massive band at the 2013 Montreux shows was only Cassie - both those bands had horn sections.

Someone once mentioned that Mr Hayes has all the sounds and patches? from the records and hence is needed where something really needs to sound like the record...not sure how true that is...

Or you could learn to read and notice we're talking about THE LA RESIDENCY and why it wasn't 21 concerts despite being billed as such.

Hi, I'm pretty sure that's Mr Hayes...during a Paris television show with the same band set-up, he asks Ida to solo and then ask Mr Hayes to 'help her out' 'mini moog' this was during DMSR...once again Morris was hidden away
