I do Prince got better and better over time with each tour. Purple rain tour is great but he focused on too much theatrics...like talking to God,stopping songs just to get people to snap their fingers or talk dirty I prefer the welcome 2 america tour because Prince was more focused on his musicanship SOTT concert was really good as well

At this stage the Prince Live shows were "best off" shows with very little own personality while SOTT and PR were tied in with the look and feel of the albums. Welcome 2 america was pretty much the same as the 2007 London shows and the 20ten shows (aside from stage design). And indeed, though Shelby, Live and Elisa are great singers, they take too much of the spotlight.

You could say that his shows between 2007 and 2012 he was focussing too much on the hits. You basically heard the same songs year after year with largely the same band.

The WHOLE Welcome2America Deluxe set is just breathtakingly beautiful WELL worth the price and more. I wasn't expecting it to look that beautiful when I opened the well packed box. But I absolutely love it! It's so detailed with all these little treats inside besides the MUZIQ. Not to mention I haven't even watched the blu-ray disc yet. Although I attended SEVERAL of those legendary 21 shows @ The Forum.

[Edited 7/31/21 11:53am]

I don't pay 110 euro for a single album with a live dvd and some scrapbook material. I'm sure it's beautiful but that's just it; too much fludd, too little substance.

Wasn't included in my CD version. I'm not spending £100+ for vinyl I'm never going to be able to use and all the other fluff in the set. Would have happily paid extra for a reasonably priced release in the UK of a CD+Blu-Ray set. I know about the Japanese release, it's way overpriced to import, not worth it.

Same here. The UK super deluxe is £149. Total rip off so I haven't bothered.

Actually, it's been reduced to £97.14 on Amazon. I'm wondering if Amazon are going to refund the £50 or I have to send it back and order a new one.

In 2011in brussels it was cassandra, neto, john Blackwell, Shelby, liv, elisa, Ida. No Mr Hayes at that point and Cora Dunham for sure was replaced. But the arrangements of all those tours were largely the same over the years. The sound of the band didn't really alter during that era.

Brilliant, this is definitely worth having if you want a reminder of how brilliant Prince was live! It's got a bit of everything going on. The show was not perfect, but no show ever is. This is raw footage from a live event. It reminded me of all the shows I've been to over the years and also just how funny and 'in the moment' Prince was. An absolute gem of a bluray, I'm so pleased that I saved up for it 😎✌🎹

Just listened to the DVD audio side by side with the soundboard quality version that has been out there for years.

To the average person, sound is okay. But the DVD audio compared to the soundboard version is disappointing.

Just watched the show. It's interesting how much he shared the spotlight with Shelby.

.

I could watch 2 hours of his "Purple Rain" ending improvisations. Man, that song gets better and better as I get older and older.

I take it u haven't seen the Blu-ray but decided to comment anyway from a biased 80s perspective. If u let a non fan watch any purple rain tour show & this, a non fan would set u straight on which is better. He played unusual set list also . If may 14th welcome 2 America legendary show was released , U'd criticize that. Welcome 2 America is a legendary tour. Purple rain tour is not

I liked the first ave 83 & birthday show 84. Main tour would've been better if he did that time v Prince battle he initially planned to do. 87 onwards is preference. . Purple Rain tour is still pretty good . Just didn't come off as good as it should've maybe.

Welcome 2america was very similar to the London show, and I'm sure it's a fun recording, but 120 to 140 euro for what's basically 1 album and one DVD is just obscene. I have the money but I really feel the estate is now milking the fans in a very disrespectful way. That's not a normal price. Even with the book and small stuff tgT is not essential.

It sounds like it was sourced from the old CD-R they found at Paisley, with digital rot noises intact. The worst offender is Stand Up And B Strong, but the clicks appear on other songs as well.

No deluxe anymore on the french amazon (or price indication) and all others are at a minimum of 129 euro. looking at the prices, for 90 euro you only have the vynil boxset but they wrongly show the image of the deluxe set.

I'll take an inspired Prince any day, over the later hits based tours. I've seen plenty of Prince shows from 1985 to 2016 and none of them I would consider bad shows, just saying.

I know Morris Hayes is off on his own podium somewhere, but where exactly is that in relation to the stage? I couldn't really tell from the camera angles. (I heard him asked about this in an interview, probably the one he did for the Peach and Black podcast. He really didn't have much of an explanation other than Prince thought it was fun to stick him off on his own.)

At the end of the stage with the big circle, there's a standing section of the audience. Morris's little 'island' is right in the middle of that section, maybe 20-30 feet or so from the stage.

They really are doing everything they can to make us think this live BluRay is extremely valuable. It's not available unless you shell out the BIG $$$ for the deluxe packages, even the cheapest way to get get it on the japanese version is around $80-90, so with the regular album coming in at say $15, they want us to believe the live concert is worth at least $65.. you cant watch it on youtube, you cant even hear the audio on streaming services, seems like they are trying to get it into our heads that Prince live concerts are very valuable, you can ONLY get it with the big $$$.. It is a PREMIUM product

.

so later on when they eventually get to releasing live shows, we're already conditioned to pay through the nose for them. that's what it seems like to me. Is there any other logical reason?

.

also taking into account the BluRay isn't perfect, the distortion on P's vocals is very disappointing. We know they are hopeless with their quality control, this just seems to be yet another misstep.

.

Watched a little of it tonight. Sad to say I was bored. I'll definitely watch it again, many of his works need time to grow on you. I think at this point in his career, and in these types of shows, something is missing. I feel like even the horrible Live at the Alladin DVD has some shining moments (Pop Life).

I was getting frustrated too that the spotlight was too much on other band members and the female singers. It's like Prince is saying "I really want you to listen to them, but I know you wont show up unless I'm on the stage, so I'll be in the background making you listen to them."

I instantly remembered trying to watch on of the Montreaux Jazz shows, and it just seemed like he was phoning it in, or just didn't have that spark anymore.

He was inspired on most tours. He sometimes upto the eyeballs on drugs in later shows. He gave 100%. Legendary I use when I feel it is his best tours. 87 onwards is where the step up occurs. Legendary tours r 87, 88, gold tour, 2002 paisley park.welcome 2 America & piano & mic,
1st AVE 83 is very good But Purple rain main tour is good but nowhere near his best ,He more inspired on welcome 2 America, played better & so did band.
Revolution Eg mainly Wendy & Bobby Z were weaker live musicians than later ones
