Welcome2America Concert On Blu-Ray Disc

Anyone watched the included blu-ray of the Welcome2America 2011 show yet ?

-

What did you think of it? The show itself, quality of sound, picture etc?

I didn't watch it.

In fact, my amazon preorder from three and a half months ago has been postponed to next week.

Wasn't included in my CD version. I'm not spending £100+ for vinyl I'm never going to be able to use and all the other fluff in the set. Would have happily paid extra for a reasonably priced release in the UK of a CD+Blu-Ray set. I know about the Japanese release, it's way overpriced to import, not worth it.

RIP sad

The CD/BR should be made available worldwide, not just Japan.

So much this. We gotta vote with our wallets or they'll just keep fleecing us worse and worse.

Same here. The UK super deluxe is £149. Total rip off so I haven't bothered.

I purchased Sign superdeluxe from Amazon - 9 discs £115 versus the price of this deluxe. I couldnt justify the price hike, way overpriced.

I'm 4 songs in. Sound and picture are excellent. It's a better show than the setlist suggests. Prince is in a no nonsense mood, the way I like him. Love seeing John Blackwell and Renato again...

Agree, great sound and picture. I realised today this is one of the few professional concerts on video which were not intended for release. Which makes it special Still unfortunately parts of the concerts are too dark. Love the last part!

Same here, didn't hesitate to pre-order the SDE of SOTT. Just not going to waste money on anything with vinyl in it.

I know I didn't want to pay to have it with vinyl, but the Japanese is comparitively more affordable than that one. Mind you, I just got an additional import invoice from DHL now that they are ready to deliver. eek

I ordered the Japanese edition just for the Blu-ray. Hasn't shipped yet. I imagine it could be a while. Definitely overpriced, but not as overpriced as getting it from the deluxe edition when I have no interest in collecting vinyl. It's funny - I feel the need to have a pressed CD when I really don't need it (streaming, etc.), but no desire to collect vinyl. I guess the format you grew up on is the format of preference!

Camera work seems a bit subpar... would've been nice to have some better footage of John Blackwell and Mr Hayes. P was definitely not physically tip-top. Not very mobile and relies on the girls to inject some energy. Song arrangements are well put together.

Definitely not for me. I grew up with vinyl and never ever liked it. The cracks and pops were always intrusive and it was always so inconvenient to put a record on the record player. Back then I would prefer a tape over vinyl.

When CDs came out, I was all over them. Loved them form day one. Nowadays, 100% of my listenig is from streaming. I can't hear any difference between CD and a high quality MP3, so I choose convenience. I only pay for the releases to support the estate so that we continue to get content released.

Thanks for your response in the other thread! I’ll have to get the deluxe for the wife’s family then too!

The pic quality is superb. Finally, to see him this clearly. What a thrill. The audio just amazing. They really put effort into the mix. The sound is TIGHT and the bass is so well integrated as is the surround. The show, as someone said, much better than the setlist would make you Think. The few tribute lines of Teena Marie's Lovergirl...awesome. The version of 17 Days... really good. It was a THRILL to hear him so clearly ....but, to me, the part I played 10x, video recorded and Whatsapped to many friends is- watching this guy just GO OFF on his guitar during Play That Funky Music. It reminded me again, that there is no more exciting a guitar player as him today. Besides just looking cool as hell with a guitar, the man played it like It was his mother tongue. I was and am floored and can not understand how we didn't get a two channel audio mix of it on cd. It is tremendous watching him whirl around, make the faces and all the while keep full command of that beast of a guitar.

Effortless

If your wife was the Asian woman dancing super sexily near Prince during Jungle Love...eowowow. you are a lucky dude. However, if your wife is one of the the annoying three who rubber Prince's boot while he was on the piano, well, good luck:)

Indeed...he seemed to just be hitting his stride this late in the show and really seemed energized.

I watched the Blu-ray a few hours ago...
What a show!!!!!
The audio and picture quality was amazing and once Shelby and the girls piped down the concert got really good.
Highlights for me are
The bird, jungle love, love bizzare (with Prince singing on top of a piano) and the Prince calling out a woman from jersey shore
Also,I enjoyed "More than this"
The Blu-ray alone made the price of the set worth it for me
Also,I believe this concert is the best official prince concert available. It is better than both SOTT and Syracuse 85
Prince is in top form on thia welcome 2 america concert

Just got back from Paisley watching the Blu Ray in the soundstage. Oh man, Shhh was painful. Prince handing off his guitar before they really get into it. Renato was horrible. CLAP YOUR HANDS, STOMP YOUR FEET! zzz Prince was really dialing it in for this one.

The sound and video quality is excellent, but saying it's better than SOTT and Syracuse is blasphemy! Adore is better than that whole concert combined.

That's pretty standard for a courrier. You'll have to pay the import taxes and there's probably an extortionate handling fee.
