I personally love D&P and Batman so that shifted that golden age a couple of years to make sure they got included in there for me too

arms of orion=elevator music michael bolton rolling over in his grave! biggrin

.
To set the record straight, “The Arms of Orion” is actually one of his best.
I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

I'm amazed at how many people here can't count to ten even after it was pointed out to them.

Anyway, my choice is the obvious 1979-1988 period although I've been playing For You much more than Prince lately.

Pshhh.... dont mention it again.
Cannot decide between 1983-1994 and 1984-1993.
So 1984-1994 is my answer 😂

graffiti bridge sucked balls though

The song, yes, it certainly sucks! The album kind of sucks as well, but some of the individual songs are favorites of mine.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

a whole lot of true....Prince was embarassingly bad in the 90;s and super uncool....i had to listen secretly cuz in the 90's i could lose alll my street cred by listening to Prince...in the 8o's u got street cred if u was on Prince and the Time in the hood!

I have to agree with you here to a certain extent. By the time we reached the mid-nineties for sure Prince was no longer 'cool' and 'in the Zeitgeist' like he was in the mid-80's. He started following trends instead of setting them. I was often embarrased by his looks, his antics and a lot of the music that came out in the 90's. He was no longer leading the pack and although I still was a fan, I would certainly not play a new Prince album when friends came over to chill at my place. I would listen to his new albums alone, and maybe dig 2 or 3 tracks at most.

A lot of Prince's music and the production of it sounded embarrassing to me at that time. I much prefered styles like house, techno, triphop, drum & bass, big beat etc. during the 90's. In all truth I guess the pop format was played out for me in the 90's and I favored the forefront of electronic music and the whole lifestyle that came with that scene.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I really don't think Prince in the 90s took a dive in quality, considering the amount of output. I like a lot of a dance music, Underworld, The Chemical Brothers, Massive Attack, The Prodigy and creme de la creme The Orb.

But Prince was never really going to do electronic dance music. He did hiphop really well in my opinion, tonnes more funky music, more great ballads, and a lot of R'n'B which you could argue was derivative, but still sounded relevant, if not always essential.

The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

If you can add value to someone's life then why not. Especially if it colors their days...

1984-1995, slight cheat as the Gold Experience infamously sat on the shelf for a bit.

But, 1999 aside (album not year), that’s his truly greatest period bracketed within just a tad over one decade. If he was on the slide after 1988, he still didn’t meet or even glimpse anyone else on the way down until after 1994.

It boggles my mind that we so commonly divide and rank his career so evenly when his tastes and directions changed like the wind.

Going strictly by the original question of the greatest 10 years, I'd say 80-90.

graffiti bridge sucked balls though

...then u must feel the same about his 80's material since GB is 99% 80's material wink
