Don't want to piss on anyone's parade, but don't forget vinyl is sonically inferior to CD and quality MP3.

Got mine yesterday - and I don’t even have a turntable. That’ll be soon remedied.

You lost me. Where’s the typo?

There's no gold stamping. The tracklist and symbol on front cover are missing

Sorry, I confounded the misprint with the earlier discussion about a purported typo in the song title. Looked right past it.

In theory this is true. At least partly.

In practice though, artists and engineers (and record companies) make choices in the final mastering of CDs, and other digital formats, which make the final products much less plesant to listen to than their analogue equivalents.

Gotta love that snap, crackle, pop you get with a record player!

Reminds me of the old gramophones and an old grandparent of mine who was suffering with dementia. He once picked one up thinking it was a french horn, and started blowing on the record with his mouth...
Immediately he became a one nite sensation, everyone marvelling at his ability to scratch. Sadly he never mastered the art of mixing.

You're right. There is no difference. In fact, I've almost totally stopped listening to the cds I have and have gone almost exclusively to vinyl. I don't want to get into a debate about which better but some music sounds amazing on vinyl especially if it's from the pre-compact disc era.

I got a copy - even if it did mean queuing up on Record Store Day! Feels like the kind of album that should be pressed onto vinyl.

I picked this up last Saturday.

The vinyl is dead silent and sounds absolutely fantastic!

I bought some used vinyl yesterday: A couple of Rufus, a couple of Parliament, The Isleys, James Brown, Black Uhuru, Commodores and Herbie Hancock. They sound like a million bucks. I swear that music was meant for vinyl.

Man this release is tasty.

My vinyl looks a little scruffy, but it sounds absolutely stellar! Beautiful, warm yet crisp, with depth and richness throughout.

It's another fantastic vinyl release from Sony, and once again, this is now the definitive version of the album, sounding MILES better than the original CD release. Suddenly, the album is as open, rich and inspired as it was intended to be.

Fantastic stuff. Here's to all his 90s/00s/10s work being released this way!

The scruffy vinyl comes from Sony tending to use paper sleeves for their releases as opposed to the PVC lined ones that most of the Warner releases come with. I always run mine through a vinyl cleaning machine before using my own PVC sleeves when a release comes with a paper one. I still keep the original sleeve in the pack, I just don't house the record in it.

You sound like it's the mid 80s and you've just discovered the format loooool

Pre 90s music sounds best on vinyl

Although dating that a lot of rap and dance music still sounded good on record in the 90s and early 00s

Romeoblu

My copy from the official Prince store arrived today in the uk.

With Shipping included it only cost me £28.00 which is about what it would have cost if I had found a record store here in the uk selling it.

It is one of my least favourite albums but it sounds great and I really like the packaging. I think it benefits from getting a vinyl release.

Sounds more dynamic and fuller.

well if this hasn't been mastered for vinyl (which I highly doubt), this will definitely sound worse than the CD pressing, simple facts

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

It sounds great. Sony aren't just going to throw something out on vinyl using a CD master.

My ass.
They used second-hand audio cassette for the mastering of The Versace Experience vinyl and CD.

Of course it will have been mastered for vinyl, simply because it HAS to be, because vinyl can't handle the volume levels of CD....

And what possible reason or evidence do you have that it wasn't mastered for vinyl?

There are no 'simple facts' anywhere in your post.

And anyone with ears knows that pretty much all Prince's mid-late 90s albums were brickwalled to shit on the CD releases....

All you have to do to know that vinyl version is better than the CD version is listen to it.

But I guess you couldn't be bothered to do that.

Those two would have had different masters regardless of the source

I bought my copy on RSD and just heard it the other day. It does sound way better on a turntable than it ever has on CD. It's been my experience that most of his music that was exclusively available on CD has sounded better on a vinyl record ( Planet Earth, 3121, Rave unto/into the Joy Fantastic, and so on...). Like someone said: the mastering for a vinyl LP release is different than for a CD.

I like this album, but how did they decide on that as the cover? I wish they chose something else. I don't want another album with a photo of Prince as the cover. I didn't think there was one official for this album before.

Do say then, what or whom would you like on Prince's covers instead of Prince? Maybe someone here can put a word in with Sony.
