I was watching the Prince Podcast and mentioned in the comments was Jussie Smollett being perfect Prince casting for a biopic.

I never thought of him before but I can totally see it.

He can sing and dance, has that am-I-black-or-white-am-I-straight-or-gay look, and has a level of controversy that is, if not enirely apropos to the controversy we're used to concerning Prince, will definitely bring buzz and attention to the project.

Off base or on point?

*He was already fan-casted as Prince in a proposed Michael Jackson bio. Pre-controversy but still...

I think it would be best to get someone who is less controversial Jussie Smollett would doom this project from the very start.

That would be like bad tv movie casting. Plus he's 6 feet tall. Is Chick going to be a special effect to offset the height?

The height nixes the idea, unless camera trickery can offset it.

As for the other stuff that's debatable. I mean if you've seen Empire you know as a singer and performer he's pretty accomplished. He can pull off the drama.

Why is everyone hankering for a bio pic?! No matter who they choose, no one is going to be satisified. Prince fans are going to blather on about "Prince never blinked like that," or whatever. Nit picking to the Nth degree, which wouldn't be surprising considering there is what... 8 or 9 estate stickies at this point?

The thread is already up in its "bad casting" feelings, so clearly Smollett isn't a viable actor for the part (that doesn't exist yet) either. Besides, looking like the person in question is minimal compared to the actual acting and delivery of the story. Y'all want a clone or a movie?

Give me an indepth documentary, stories we've never heard before (obviously coupled with things we do know because Prince fans aren't the only people watching television), photos, home movies, etc. There is allegedlly one in production, so here's hoping the nit picking is minimal on that (I'm not holding my breath).

But as someone said, fuck a bio-pic.

I'm not in favour of a Prince biopic. I'm sure it will come at some point but so far they've never got the Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye or MJ biopics going and so I hold out hope that it will never happen. I also wouldn't prefer "Juicey" to be anywhere Prince related.

NO ONE should or could portray Prince in a biopic.
Especially a fake-attack pity-seeker.
Even the impersonators are too big, too made-up, can't sing, can't dance.

IF (when) there is one, they should should events from Prince's perspective (through his eyes).
Show him only in performance videos.
