Jussie Smollett: The Perfect Prince?

I was watching the Prince Podcast and mentioned in the comments was Jussie Smollett being perfect Prince casting for a biopic.

I never thought of him before but I can totally see it.

He can sing and dance, has that am-I-black-or-white-am-I-straight-or-gay look, and has a level of controversy that is, if not enirely apropos to the controversy we're used to concerning Prince, will definitely bring buzz and attention to the project.

Off base or on point?

*He was already fan-casted as Prince in a proposed Michael Jackson bio. Pre-controversy but still...

Too much controversy involving him. Really hoping Prince isn't being used to restart Jussie's career. He shot his own self in the foot. He's got work to do.

Not a bad idea pre-controversy. He has some resemblance to Prince. He would need to lose weight and change his hair of course. Post controversy tho, all the media surrounding the project would be too focused on that.

The height nixes the idea, unless camera trickery can offset it.

As for the other stuff that's debatable. I mean if you've seen Empire you know as a singer and performer he's pretty accomplished. He can pull off the drama.

Fuck bio-pics. I agree with Rick, make this a docu-series ala Michael Jordan’s The Last Dance and make it as accurate as possible. Beside with the way biopics are going these days in Hollywood, they’ll probably have the actor (of another singer) overdub their vocals in the music when they already have the real thing to lip synch to (my only & BIGGEST gripe with NatGeo’s “Aretha” series and damn near every other music biopic from the past 15 years).

The last time I saw a bio-pic and it impressed me, was Brian Wilson’s Love & Mercy, but for the most part I find documentaries far more compelling & interesting.

Why is everyone hankering for a bio pic?! No matter who they choose, no one is going to be satisified. Prince fans are going to blather on about "Prince never blinked like that," or whatever. Nit picking to the Nth degree, which wouldn't be surprising considering there is what... 8 or 9 estate stickies at this point?

The thread is already up in its "bad casting" feelings, so clearly Smollett isn't a viable actor for the part (that doesn't exist yet) either. Besides, looking like the person in question is minimal compared to the actual acting and delivery of the story. Y'all want a clone or a movie?

Give me an indepth documentary, stories we've never heard before (obviously coupled with things we do know because Prince fans aren't the only people watching television), photos, home movies, etc. There is allegedlly one in production, so here's hoping the nit picking is minimal on that (I'm not holding my breath).

But as someone said, fuck a bio-pic.

It's not a good photo but he really did come very close to the look overall unfortunately we've seen him dance and act neutral

I would rather be forced to listen to scratching chalkboards than bear a movie with someone playing Prince that doesn't look like him. His EXACT look was a big part of it.

Milty2	I'm not in favour of a Prince biopic. I'm sure it will come at some point but so far they've never got the Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye or MJ biopics going and so I hold out hope that it will never happen. I also wouldn't prefer "Juicey" to be anywhere Prince related.

NO ONE should or could portray Prince in a biopic.
Especially a fake-attack pity-seeker.
Even the impersonators are too big, too made-up, can't sing, can't dance.

IF (when) there is one, they should should events from Prince's perspective (through his eyes).
Show him only in performance videos.

An art film.
Different from anything else.
