Love that benefit show recording. The Computer Blue from that gig ROCKS SO HARD. I always thought the story went that the show was the foundation for some of the songs but a lot of the parts were re-recorded or overdubbed. So the finished product is a combination of both the live tracks and Prince doing the Prince thing. Idk, that's what I remember, but it's been so long since I've read anything new about it.

Do you have Tudahl's book? Because there is too much to reproduce here. Prince spent hours and hours in the studio fixing, overdubbing and rerecording. I would think that some of the band's playing is still on there, but it is not the live First Avenue performance -- does it sound like it? . Baby I'm a Star: "After a dinner break he added another 2 hours of synth overdubs to replace various parts of the performances of Lisa Coleman and Matt Fink. "I think that he thought he could do it best," explains Fink, "and that musically he felt like he could get what he wanted because he could do it himself. He would always know what he would like because he knew he could do it. I'd say it was the control aspect. Having complete control. That was one thing Prince always had to have. I know that."

I do but I have to find it. I moved since I bought it
That makes sense esp on Baby I'm A Star cuz the synth vamps at the end have never sounded the same live as they do on the record.

The key word is "parts". I know the solo is edited. But it's obviously from the show. There's exact matching feed back. The vocal is edited, but I definitely think it's the entire live vocal.

According to Brenda Bennett, Manic Monday was a Vanity 6 song. When Vanity left, Prince gave the demo with her vocals to apple to overdub. I think some folks need to realize that just because we don't have a bootleg or copy of something, doesn't mean it never existed. Prince recorded all the time -- Dylan sometime wrote on toilet paper. Brenda was there. Regardless, apple never co-wrote the song -- didn't even pay for her studio time. [Edited 6/6/21 12:47pm] Yes, I'm aware of all that; I'm specifically asking about the highlighted portion of the quote including, "(and we have the files)" that GaryMF posted.

I didn't mean to be that specific. I was still in shock at hearing Apples say she "wrote" Glamorous Life!!!
I was probably thinking about the fact that we have the Prince demos of Glam Life with his vocals (the leak and then the Originals version) and I've heard the Appollonia version of Manic Monday but when I typed this I might have been thinking it was sung by Vanity. I don't have a Prince only version of Manic Monday.
I love how she pulls out a purple notebook and says "look here's the pages that are ripped out that are where I wrote it!" and even the pages before and after the "ripped out ones" are all BLANK!!!!
Sheila needs to slap her across the face 1 time, but she's stayed above the fray since the Lemon Cake scandal.

There have been several people that believe that they inspired/co-wrote songs. Probably not least because that's what Prince told them. He was basically bigging them up. Made them feel talented as fuck. . At the same time, he did take inspiration from any and everything around them, so the stories, phrases and words that people used/told came back in what he wrote. . In this case, it seems like Patty believed some white lies Prince told her and probably misremembered some other things. I'm sure the Mia Bocca lyrics story is about In A Spanish Villa (I wish I could get an instrumental version of that song!) . There's a long history of conflicting stories about songs from the Prince camp, not least from Prince himself. I guess he thought it helped the mystique and I'm sure it wasn't bad to keep people motivated if they felt more ownership of whatever project Prince had them be the face of. 100%

It's not. because Jill told the story about writing the ITALIAN lyrics and calling an Italian restaurant for Mia Bocca. She's just copying the story and not getting it right at that.

Apples...just doesn't seem very bright. I used to think she was at least sweet, but then she went in like an asshole on Sheila during Lemon Cake-gate. Sorry Apples, but calling anyone "he-she" is just fucking rude.

- I like Apollonia. Is she lying ? I like Sheila. Is Sheila lying ? I like all the protegees. Are they all lying? Yes, sure. No, Not exactly certain. Probably and possibly the biggest liars in the center of it all was lil' Princy himself. But that's beside the question right now. Lemme say this; People who constantly spray and use words like 'truth', and 'the truth' (all the time) have an agenda. If not two or more. One doesn't need the word truth to be used to put strenght on what they are saying. It's as simple as that. - Apollonia seems ok. Do i believe her ? I just believe her as much as Prince mysteries. And that's pretty doubtfull. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I just watched this interview. I have to say, she's very credible. I think I'm most surprised at her friendship w/ Prince for so long, and their interactions. The girl brought notes! She wasn't playin'. The fact that she brought the little book Prince bought for her, and we saw the torn pages of her lyrics or poems that he used in the songs... that's a cool artifact. I wonder if those are still lurking around somewhere. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Regardless of whether some of her claims maybe untrue or embellished, I get the impression she had genuine love and affection for Prince during his life and really cared about him. That’s enough for me. He needed people like that more than anything else. 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

You can't be serious. Anyone can get a book, tear out some pages, and be like "Look! Here are the pages that I gave to Prince where I wrote 1999!" Plus, if you look closely, the pages before and after the "torn out" ones are BLANK!!!!
Chile please.
