I want GRAFFITI BRIDGE: Super Deluxe (genuinely) Although Graffiti Bridge may not be one of Prince's most popular albums (and has its fair share of flaws), when you consider how long it existed as a concept and the many wonderful songs that relate to it, I think this could be one of Prince's greatest box sets.

I think it’s a great album to mold into a fantastic SDE - there’s almost too much to fit on it - I would drop the Batman tracks (save them for the Batman Deluxe). It would be a really tricky one to get right but I’m up for it!

Say what you want about Graffiti Bridge and all the uncessary filler from the other artists, but if you took out everything else out and just kept:
We Can Funk Elephats & Flowers Joy in Repetition Thieves in the Temple The Question of U
That's a hell of an album with only those 5 songs.

One of my favorite albums and movies! A super deluxe of the "Graffiti Bridge" album should be released!

. Well, not to mention that all the so-called "unnecessary filler" you refer to is actually by Prince, just featuring guest vocalists. . Of which there are some absolutely KILLER songs: "Round and Round" was a hit for a good reason, "Love Machine" is awesome, "Melody Cool" is a highlight on the album. . Of the non-Prince lead vocals, for my money only ONE feels like filler to be honest and that would be "Shake!" (poor choice for a single). The Maxi-single of "Shake" has a few good remixes. . GB is such a tremendous album. "Still Would Stand All Time" happens to be my personal fave, but I haven't tired of the entire record over the course of 31 years. . I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

Great list !
I'd love to hear a Graffiti Bridge Super deluxe Box set. I think it has the content to be one of the greatest.
Given the amount of material recorded for the GB project, i'd suggest to keep some of the songs for a Batman SDE. At least, Big House, We Got The Power, Dance With the Devil & basically all the RUTJF tracks.
Hopefully we'll live long enough to hear this one

- Great and nice list. But i'm affraid it'll never happen. By the way, this :
"CD 6&7: Live Concert (LP 11&12) After Show, Het Paard Van Troje, The Hague, 19 August 1988 Instrumental In G D.M.S.R. Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) People Without Housequake Blues In C / Down Home Blues / Kansas City Cold Sweat Forever In My Life Still Would Stand All Time I'll Take You There Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic"
...belongs to the ''LOVESEXY'', without a doubt. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Fab concept!! But, if separate disc one into two, a disc of Prince svd a disc of other

Don't forget the piano piece Bridge of Graffiti . I'm very interested in the 1987-88 songs that were planned for the Prince Madonna Cat Lovesexy band Bridge of Graffiti/Graffiti Bridge script. . That list you compiled feels like a 'wrap up the 80s' set lol . I would definately be interested in this GB deluxe if they did it

This would make an absolutely fantastic release. The 1987-1989 outtakes are some of my most wanted. [Edited 5/20/21 9:58am]

I want this too, for the potential it offers.

It would be an amazing release Welcome 2 The Dawn

Having experienced this era and knowing the eras that followed it, "Graffiti Bridge" is probably the beginning of the first era in which I lose interest in the unreleased stuff. Andy is a four letter word.

I would say it's the beginning of the era where the unreleased stuff is more interesting than the released stuff. I think Rave would have been a better album than Batman. And when you think of all the great songs he wrote in the late 80s/early 90s that he didn't release or gave away: Dance With the Devil, God Is Alive, Open Book... If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Very nice!! I would like it too, but pretty low on my personal SDE priority list. (Insert something clever here)

I would love this too. Pound for pound, GB has my Top 4 or 5 favourite Prince songs of all time.

There is some really strong material from this time frame. There is alot that has never leaked or not in full. Stimulation Beat Town The Rock That Keeps Rolling Bloody Mouth Am I Without U Ruthie Washington Jet Blues Big House Come Back 2 Me I Believe I Love U. Then of what we have heard a number of the songs are in poor sound quality The Voice Inside If I Had Harem By Alien Means This would be very very close to Parade deluxe as my most wanted release.

Yes. The way I as a fan see it: these archive releases show us the creative process that the artist went through and in that way you get a better understanding of the artist and his music. And you get to hear a lot of "new" music! So a box set that would show us how Prince went from the original idea of Graffiti Bridge to the finished product would be fascinating. But I'm afraid the Estate only sees these box sets as a way to make money from famous albums. And since GB isn't a famous album, it's probably never going to happen. Such a shame. One glaring omission: The "Thieves in The Temple" acoustic demo. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
CD 1: Batman (Remastered)
CD 2:
CD 3:
Then like you said remixes, singles, vault tracks from all three eras. There's so much material, I would forgo the live concert portion of the Super Deluxe concept.
Do a cheap 3-disc release like Purple Rain: Deluxe and then let the rest fly with a big boxset.

Musze said: One glaring omission: The "Thieves in The Temple" acoustic demo. I’m quite interested in these acoustic demos, possibly first versions. I reckon there’s some value in a stand-alone release of them. There was the “I Feel For You” single a couple of years ago with the demo. Demos of “Kiss” and “Alphabet St” can be found, if you search, but there must be more of just Prince, an acoustic guitar and a tape recorder. My big hope of one day hearing is from this Bobby Z recollection, while touring fourth album ‘Controversy’. “We were traveling in the South and the hotels were not luxurious in those days,” Bobby remembers. “This one night we stopped at a place that had ‘Free HBO’ written outside. That sign made us all just crazy. We were so excited to watch cable for the first time. There was this Orson Welles film on, The Man Who Saw Tomorrow. It was about Nostradamus. He kept saying that Armageddon was coming in 1999. The next day, everybody was talking about this Orson Welles thing, like: ‘Did you see that?’ Prince just took out his little cassette and played us a demo he’d written. It was ‘1999’.” https://www.nme.com/featu...gn-2504657 There may or may not be something coming!

Back on the subject of a GB, I don’t listen to the album in full often. This and the Symbol album, at the time of release seemed a few songs too many at once (same for Emancipation). But I happened to be listening to it over the last couple of days and it’s a really solid album, even the associated artist stuff. I’d welcome a deluxe or super deluxe. There may or may not be something coming!

Yes it's a very solid album. I wish there was a configuration of just the Prince material however.
