3. Pop Life, he was preachy about drugs. Great song doe.

4. Paisley Park. Like how different it is.

5. Around The World. Middle eastern. Decent.

6. Tamborine. Decent, no masterpiece.

7. The Ladder. Dumb lyrics but decent tune. Better live.

8.America, decent jam but silly anti Commie lyrics. Republican bitch punk. lol

Yeah, it really builds into a crazy track!
The whole album is great, so I guess even 8th/9th place is understandable!

I've definitely gone back n' forth with the song. I get the grindy-bluesy slow burn of it. But I always felt it was maybe a bit too slow. It's not just gritty and dirty, it's like one of those prisoners who writes their manifesto on a jail wall with their own poop. I think "Darling Nikki" comes across better as a dirty gritty number than "Temptation." It feels like a rockabilly 45rpm playing at 33 1/3 or 16.

That said, it's still a fun number. I would love to hear a tighter, slightly more upbeat version. Once I edited out the ending, it feels slightly stronger.

And SoulAlive, while trying to find the source of that quote, I came across this. (reply #4). lol

Always love that one too.

Wonderful vocals and one of his very first sparce pop tunes.

Not to forget the wild and funky drums.

-

But somehow the purcussion overproduction or sound bothered me a bit.

Would love to hear a better mix of that master.

Less sharp /hiss/ in the production on the percussion part - specifically the tambourine and the cymbals i think. Very sharp in my ears, and sounds loud too.

The song is a perfect funky pop tune though.

I agree.

It is a fantastic piece of pop/rockmusic.

I even wish it was much longer.

I for one looooooove that last part (as a sepearte song even).

I do hope one day we can hear a longer version - who knows.

-

The derailed wailing guitar intro, knocked off with Prince's screaming intro.

And the lyrics that meander between the greazy slow down snare beat.

The lovely lighthearted refrain synth-twinkle.

The whole first 3:18 R'nRness of the first part is so fantastic, heavy, and to me a phat nod to ZZ-Top...

His eternal inimitable and impersonable screams... (4:25 go listen again)...

The self-absorbed lower voice coming in at 4:50, love all that!

Then the loop driven piano touches.

From here on you can actually split the song in two songs imho.

(listen to the piano chords at 7:40)...

His vocals are so splashing and electrifying, plus I love the outrageous Eddie Mininfield sax duet with his vocals.

It sounds like a scary drug-filled deep halucinant fall from a high building, but still floating on that funky thin drum loop.

Just Love It.

Where does your fan edit of the song end? Did you fade it out or do hard cut?

It's a quick fade with a clap of thunder so sorta muddy the fade a bit.

I've gone back and forth on Temptation as well. Sometimes I think it's a badass grinding groove and really get into it. Other times I think it's cheesy burlesque and cringe at it. I suppose it depends what mood I'm in.
