and the last 3 songs are boring inclusions.

By "As much Blondie as it is James Brown" I think they're trying to say "sounds more like Blondie than James Brown, who would be a more obvious influence on a young funk and rnb singer in 1980." Badly worded though. Anway, yeah, I wouldn't argue any of them aren't essential but he has at least 50 essential songs.

except theyre not totally clueless in this case, just a bit off base at times.

but its def a pop/rock prince list. i.e. crossover hits.

if i did a 25 essential funk/soul/rnb prince list it would be quite different, though many of the same songs would be there, cos prince mixed it up most of the time.
