12 inch vinyl is what made me want to become an illustrator and go to art school. When I was a kid, I'd pore through the album sleeves and lyric sheets and shit for KISS, Elton John, Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd, etc. I kind of miss the strong association between an album's art and its overall cultural impact, which was often times iconic.

Not saying that Emancipation is in this category and I liked some the booklet as well as the magazine style thing I somehow obtained. The cover is horrible.

I don't know enough about audio to say one way or the other if vinyl is superior to CD but audiophiles I know swear by the former. Just seems like a weird thing to get in a snit about but hey, the org is gonna org.

My thing is that there is some magical big difference. There is NOT. Its A fact And a proven fact.

Sounds like we are taking subjective experiences and calling them fact lol. What is the definition of a "magical big difference" in this case? What may not be heard by you may be heard by someone else and is a big difference to them - so to me it is something hard to say "it does matter" or "it does not matter" as a whole

Not to mention, it is a case-by-case thing to begin with. Masterings, pressings, digital versus analog gear you may have, etc. For example an original UK pressing of Exile on Main St. completely smokes all but one specific digital version out there from a mastering perspective

My main beef is how we downplay how great this album is. The thing is excellent.

I think the album is a mixed bag. There are some excellent songs here, but there are also songs that I skip.

There is no big difference in sound quailty between vinyl and cd. Its a myth. I play both and thats the truth. You cannot make a songs lyrics better with a slight improvement in sound. Emancipation suffers from not being able to play it continuely in my view on vinyl. As time goes on, Emancipation is the album I play the least from his discography. There is too much filler on each cd. I find it hard work to get through either on vinyl or cd. I keep trying though.

If you have the same output sound System for your CDs than for your vinyls, I can confirm there is no difference, if difference at all.

You have just demosntrated unequivocally, that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Okay, I could search for the facepalm emoji, but life's too short.

I don't know what other words to use to explain it to you... fine, there's no difference between a massively brickwalled CD mastering and a non-brickwalled vinyl mastering.

Okay? That work for everyone?

No wonder the record companies get away with this shit.

With a friend of mine who had a 5.1 audio system, we used uto listen to the same album in both format ( CD and recent vinyl reissue) to hear the differences.
There were not, and we were in our earlies twenties, so we were physically able to hear everything in the range of sound.

We even walked outside, to see if there some differences, if we heard the music outside than inside...

So now if you need to have a 3000$ installation to hear some differences, then that's bullshit.

you guys just have insensitive hearing clearly.

there are many albums where you can listen on cd and vinyl and hear a difference.

might not necessarily be better, that does depend on your own preferences, but there is a difference.

i can play for example ok computer by radiohead and the diff is clear.

This album was clearly mastered for CD. The argument goes for old albums, often recorded to tape, mastered for vinyl that didn't sound as good when they put the same master onto CD.

I bought it to see the artwork love

It's fun to look at if you have nostalgia attached to it, such as the youthful imagination your poured over those 1970s albums.

I would like a remastered double or just a single album, cut down quite a few of the tracks. Joint 2 joint was great track up until it gets extended, with the tap dancing solo. The love we make, is one of the best tracks Prince ever made, right up there with purple rain. I would make this sound like the song it deserves to be. I can well do wihout Da Da Da, on the other hand, sleep around was a great track but again goes on forever. I loved Disc 2 and soul sanctuary is a great track, co written as it is. There is a good album here, I remember Simon Mayo on radio 2 mocking this album for it's size and I forget what else. I used to get annoyed when people didn't appreciate what a great artist he was. I guess it's each to their own. The album was big enough really !

Emancipation needs to remain untouched because if you ask 100 Prince fans to create their shortened configuration of it, you will get 100 different track lists.

For example, for me, The Love We Make is one of the first songs I would cut. I just have no time for it at all.

Maybe we should start a thread about making it one disc. wink
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Or maybe we should start a thread about those threads. I think they're part of the Org's history/DNA.
