RnRHoF director Joel Gallen posted this on what is pr...uTube page, with the following caption:

"17 years after this stunning performance by Prince, I finally had the chance to go in and re-edit it slightly - since there were several shots that were bothering me. I got rid of all the dissolves and made them all cuts, and added lots more close ups of Prince during his solo. I think it's better now. Let me know what you think. Joel."

The closeups of Prince do stand out now, and it seems to highlight Prince during his solo. I still think one of the best moments is when Prince leans back into the audience, and Dhani Harrison has this huge smile on his face, his head bobbing, just enjoying the showmanship that is Prince's performance. Tom Petty seems relatively unaffected, but Jeff Lynne can be seen smiling as well. It's one thing to have Prince on stage playing every known guitar trick (and really, nothing he did on guitar is new, he just did it to a very interesting song, and... well, he's Prince), but it's quite another to do it to a song like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."

I like the new edits. They're subtle and it feels more natural and complimentary to the music.

And still not shot of the guitar returning back to Earth at the end of the performance...

I remember Dhani changing his tune, but the video pretty much says it all. In that moment, on stage, Dhani was in pure awe of Prince and everything Prince was doing.

I always wonder why they chose THIS song to highlight George Harrison, when the album version guitar solo is actually performed by Eric Clapton?

What a little bitch. It was only awkward to him because where's his career? He's only there before he looks like his father and shares his name. No one is calling him because he's talented or has made even an ounce of difference in the musical landscape of the fucking world.

Tom's like wallpaper anyway. You can't get a read on the guy. Jeff Lynne smiled and obviously appreciated the moment.

Nothing in what Dahni says after the fact alludes to him saying anything bad about Prince or the performance. He's affirmed the fact that he enjoyed the showmanship. He's just commenting on the unexpectedness of the whole thing. Dude is a profesional musician and everyone is saying that he's playing an unplugged guitar? First, he is a twat for what he said.

Second, no one's over sensitive. Believe me when I say I'm the last person to wear purple tinted glasses when it comes to all things Prince. I'll critique him as quick as I praise him.

I'm not sure what you read, but I read, "I was smiling because I was just like,oh man. I can imagine Tom and Jeff wondering what the hell is going on. I was just kind of laughing at how awkward the whole thing was." What's more awkward is his whole persona on stage. It liteally looks like a kid on stage with a big band and trying to act like a real musician. Oh wait...

What the hell is going on is that Dhani knew Prince was going to play the solo. It wasn't some unexpected surprise to see Prince up there. How is that awkward? After rewatching it after my last reply, I realized that even Tom Petty was smiling right at Prince, just after the back bend, as much as Prince was smiling at him. Look at the faces of the organist, or the drummer or anyone else. Smiling or not, they have the same reaction that Dhani had - pure awe.

If he "enjoyed the showmanship," why is he up in his feelings about the back bend? It's such a minor part of it, but now he wants to try and tear up the whole thing for this one tiny element?

I don't know if his guitar was unplugged or not, nor do I care. There's a cord in his guitar. It's clear. Is that cord plugged into an amp? I can't tell, nor do I care to go frame by frame to figure it out.

When it was over, you can see musicians high-fiving each other because the performance was truly all that and a bag of chips. Except for, apparently, Dhani who is just embarrassed by the whole thing.

This sums up Dhani in the grand scheme of it all. And I don't mean the bulldog.

Who gives a shit about what Dahni said or didn't say? His father (who was DEAD btw) was being honored as well that night and also wrote the god damned song to begin with so he's allowed to opine.

Prince destroyed and brought his Guitar God A-Game on a night when, in addition to being honored himself, had to fill Eric Fucking Clapton's shoes on the solo and delivered in spades after respectfully layng back and giving the stage to everyone else for 90% of the song -- including a really good Winwood solo.

Everyone seemed to have fun and the performance was legendary, vaulting Prince into the public consciousness as a top tier axe player and turning millions of heads who didn't know the way we do.

IMO, you kind of have to be a certain kind of petty (no pun intended) to nitpick this thing with celebrity gossip bullshit. Take that shit to Twitter or Reddit.
