The Time (Expanded Edition) 2LP

Rhino are re-releasing The Time's debut with an expanded 2LP edition. I'm personally disappointed as LP2 contains nothing but single edits. No Prince guide vocals, no outtakes, no live music. sad

https://store.rhino.com/s...n-2lp.html

Note to mods: This might be better suited in 'Associated artists & people', but since this relates more to Prince's music / production than band members themselves I figured I'd post it here.

*** MODERATORS NOTE ***

The TIME(1981) is Prince with Morris Day and a few of his band members.

So it can be discussed in PM&M

I know it sounds crazy but I'm actually interested in the second album.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I had read a rumour this was getting a reissue.

I have no need for the second record but will get it just for the album.

What is the point of splitting Cool?

What is the point of this release? Is it remastered or something? So strange. They should actually release SDEs of this shit tbh.

A double LP where the second record is just a shorter version of the first record? That makes no sense.

Cool was in two parts on the 7" single, so they're keeping the integrity (finger quotes) of the original single release.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

This is cool. I really hope they do a digital release of this as well. I’m so sick of hearing fans complain about single edits. Single versions are part of the whole experience and reminiscent of the era and collector’s items for DJs. ❤️ the single and promo versions!
Sheila E, Vanity, Apollonia, Jill Jones, The Family and Mazarati all need expanded editions too!

Single edits are pointless unless there's something legit different about the edit. They should be issued the way the collab with Third Man went, where you could get singles of the singles, otherwise collecting them for release alongside the albums is just a waste of space.

I can't imagine ever seeking out the edits on purpose.

I’m annoyed by the price. 31:98! Couldn’t they just have made it 77 (oooooh) cents cheaper?

And as for 9 minute vinyl sides. Pfft. It’s getting silly now.

I’ll probably buy it,but the single edits are pointless. The Time are known for their long, extended jams.Who wants to hear a shortened version of “Get It Up”?! Lol

I'd buy it on 2cd just to have the edits officially in digital, not bothered with a second vinyl though; I'd rather track down some old singles if I want them on vinyl. For those asking, 7" edits are worth preserving since that was how a lot of people heard them back in the day, it's an experience that is at least worth your time considering. It's just archival stuff though, which is why I think CD is better for this kind of thing.

If it's released on streaming it'll at least be nice to be able to include an edit on a playlist if I don't feel like subjecting someone to all ten minutes of Cool.

That's the best I got for this release.

I agree completely. I like having the edit versions for when I make compilations/playlists, but releasing them in this format doesn't work.

For me, listening to the edit versions inside singles collections or multi-artist compilations enhances the album versions when I do play the albums rather than hearing the same album versions every single time the songs get played. I prefer variety.

Ah ha, I had no idea!

Huh. Well I hope it's remastered at least but I thought the Time stuff was remastered recently anyway. Idk. Want the SDE of this record with the demos and session stuff.

I wish they could do a proper CD remaster and include some previously unreleased tracks. It’s long overdue.

Are they going to ignore CD buyers again? This is clearly a trend.

Good that the Time Gets a release but this type of release is a waste of vinyl. 2nd disc does not make sense.

It's either vinyl or streaming nowadays. Vinyl may be a niche, but it's a niche that makes money. So CDs fall somewhere in between. They're too expensive compared to streaming and don't have the beauty of vinyl.

I don't believe it's a trend. Not everyone wants a CD. I'm glad it's not streaming only, although there's nothing new here to offer anyone.

I believe it sort of keeps the integrity of the original format and how it was mastered back then - for vinyl. I've yet to hear if this release is a proper remaster or not (not every Rhino re-release is a remaster, sometimes it's just because it's out of print, and these re-releases are what Rhino does).

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I wonder if they reached out to Sheila E. for the teal The Glamorous Life release. Did they reach out when Ice Cream Castles was released on Neopolitan colored vinyl? Just askin'.

Seems like it could've been a nicer release with colored vinyl, remastering - something. That 2nd LP is useless, unless you just want a shorter playlist for something (a party or whatever).

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
