Phase3

I agree with all those choices except The Musicology concert DVD. That has been available in really good quality for a while now.
Things I would like to have are
The second coming
The 3121 movie
Purple rain 4k release with deleted scenes
Crystal ball 2
Originals volume 2

here's what i want, in no order

dirty mind/controversy sde's. i don't wanna hear it from anyone about how "there's not enough material" or that they should "bundle the two together" because we both know that's horseshit. second coming, which was woefully incomplete btw, would be excellent with the controversy sde only for that delicious shot-in-film footage

i want whatever's left outtakes wise from 93-95, but i don't trust the estate to handle it properly and with the nuance it requires. it would be futile to attempt a standalone come or tge sde, this era is one they will surely struggle with unless they wise up overnight.

similarly, the early graffiti bridge period is one i don't trust the estate to handle well, but if it were done correctly it would yield a revelatory and one of a kind archival release... this weaves in and out with rave 89' thus complicating things further.

my request is no more bullshit one-off albums (to clarify, i'm speaking on things like piano and mic and originals... stuff like W2A is a-ok with me cause it's the real deal), no more half assing deluxe packages, and change your view of what an archival releases could and should be. take notes from dylan's team, and by that i don't mean release everything, but rather consider what you're releasing and adjust contents accordingly. the guy is gone, this is for the benefit of the scholars and music listening public, spinning everything into some masterpiece and elaborately constructed narrative to sell people hype is doing the music a disservice and actively hindering actual deep dives into his work, of which we should've gotten several by now.

word.

Madrid 2 Chicago

Roadhouse Garden

The Same December

Crystal Ball II (other unreleased tracks)

Originals II (I Hear Your Voice, Allegiance, Yo Mister...)

Some good live album with instrumental jam (like the Madhouse Munich, or the 15 June 1987 New Morning...)

TBH I have no interest in bio-movies or similar, or in Dream Factory/Camille when we have all the tracks. And, instead "Super Deluxe Stuff", I prefer "new" single albums with enjoyable tracklist.

If I want shit from you, I'll squeeze your head.

He's still right tho.

Anyway, a complete 'First Avenue' boxset CD/BluRay is what I want with every single performance he did there (even those 15 minutes sets like the 'Girls and Boys/HollyRock' jam he did there with Sheila E.)
Proper SDE's every 6 months start9ing with For You and continue chronologically from there.
Utilize 'Record Store Day' with releasing the unreleased albums like Katrina's Paper Dolls, Camille, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball, Rave unto the Joy Fantastic etc. All with liner notes from only relevant people who were there.

A Blu-ray of that American Bandstand performance so we can finally tell how many instruments P thought he could play

I don't want live blu-rays or DVD's or anything like that and I don't want associated artists. I want studio outtakes. Keep giving me those and I'll be happy! biggrin

I know all the shows were recorded, but do we know if they were all filmed ? The only P&M I show I’ve heard that were filmed were the 2 Paisley Park shows? Does anyone have any info on other shows filmed ?

with there being so many shows, aftershows, soundchecks, etc.. the only way something that niche and that amount of material could be successfully monitized would be something like Springsteen has.

I'd like to see proper vault 'albums' like those produced by my black brother charles ward. Because we have on good authority, sources saying P nearly always recorded songs with the intention of going on same album. But of course he couldn't release most albums, because he recorded so much.

A great song feels like a good friend. A great album feels like a best friend who will never leave your side. Albums are so important. Although despite the skip forwarding I do on the deluxe compilations. it feels churlish to complain. With both 1999 deluxe and Sign deluxe, editing out the songs I don't like, it still gives essential album vibe. Overall I guess the estate should focus on 84-88 material (or his late 20s material) as that's what renders him the great artist he is, his untouchable phase.

I very much doubt Batman will get a release with Rave adding in! I predict we will get the original album, b-sides/mixes, 1 disc of outtakes, and a live show of some kind (in a fancy box with a big book!). Could be a nice package, but it will be aimed at a general audience to increase sales.

Any ideas what the outtakes would be to fill 1 disc? Dance With The Devil, Anna Waiting(?), early versions of Batdance, Trust. Would be interesting to see what vault songs the estate deem 'Batman'. For instance Me Touch Myself and American In Paris fit the era, but are they anything to do with the theme of Batman. Is there a Prince list of songs that he considered for use and were any of them re-worked?

I woiuld love to get all the protege remasters with outtakes and Prince's versions on them.
For Batman, I think this one is one of the soundtracks/albums that WB still has the roghts to so I don't think The Estate would give them Rave to add to it when they have the rights to that and could easily press it up and release it without WB interfering.
They could add some of those Anna Fantasic recordings to the Batman SDE maybe.
