No. It is now owned by L'oreal, but started by two white ladies long ago.

Also, if you're recreating his looks, he is a lighter skin black man. So 50% of the makeup market, white or black girls who are darker, are not going to be able to use it quite rightly as his looks worked because his skin tone leant to the products he used. So I don't know how much of a money spinner this can be as he was using looks that worked for his own skin! Am hoping noone thinks I'm being racist here, if be devastated! Just meaning that if it's being developed to copy princes looks, there is a bit of a hole there! I wouldn't buy this if it were matched to my own tone myself but if it's to be a moneyspinner then could this not affect things? Obviously all people use all colours but surely shades he'd use would be more matched to his own skin? It seems quite a personal product.

Oh puhleaaaaase! Dude could have been wearing clown paint and still lookeded gorgeous. Honestly I think he tamed down the wearing of makeup over the years and I am not mad at any amount of makeup wearing. I just don't think some of you wear it. Ya darn sure aren't wearing any cologne or perfume either.

Seems quite a personal product. The only thing personal about makeup is who's applying it and stop dogging out Wet N Wild they kept many a club goer on a budget club worthy when needed. Their lavender lipstick in particular was perfect.

Sign me up I need this. All of it.
This thread is the you had me at thread hands down.

Also coldcoffee, please get some self esteem unless you are invisible and that's highly unlikely, I guarantee there's nothing wrong with your skin tone even if you wear too much makeup and come across all loud.

Let me keep you company then!

I felt the same way when I first saw this. I get the Estate has bills to pay, but this just seems embarrassing. The promo for it sounds like it's really a Damaris Lewis thing, who is riding on Prince's coat tails. His "beloved muse." Ok. Some chick he had around the last few years of his life.

When Prince first passed away, I wanted everything Prince related. I bought some lipsticks from Nars that were named after Prince songs. Expensive, not that great, and a waste of money. I'm interested to see what the Urban Decay thing looks like, but it'll probably be expensive and something I would never even use.

Even with some of the Estate clothing items--Like, I really wanted the Sign O' The Times joggers and t shirt. But total price was $75. Can't do it.

I'll gladly keep buying the music though.

Makes me wonder...If Prince was still with us, would he be more into marketing himself nowadays? I'm thinking if he had continued with his trend of surrounding himself with way-too-young people, he probably would have started doing something or other to market himself besides showcasing his music.

Suzy maybe they should be coming out with boxes of chocolate next.

You are my people.

I thought about that disaster palette from Bret Rockman. It was on sale before you could say Jaclyn Hill lipstick.

[Edited 5/6/21 20:31pm]

Urban Decay isn't my first choice, but I think it's pretty solid as they have some really great palettes. Admittedly though, I'd love to see them work with Beauty Bakerie (black owned) or Ben Nye.

I am curious what the approach is going to be. Obviously Prince wore full coverage foundation, copious amounts of liquid liner, blush, shadow. Some of that is a given - I reckon there will definitely be a felt tip liquid liner, a palette of at least a couple purples, blues, black, reds, and possibly a pink, and then a purple or baby pastel pink lip.

Trixie Mattel's last line Bottle Blonde actually looks like what id expect a Prince palette to be. One of the new lipsticks is like a dual chromatic purple/lavender with a reflective shimmer that is SOOOOO Princey.

Possibly.

But it would've been HIS (aweful) choice (too).

Like that forgotten ''3121'' perfume, which was a failure pur sang, iirc.

My personal opinion is that he would not lower himself anymore at his age to allow something like this.

Its such a sad sad choice tbh. WTF!

Why can't The Estate focus on what is imporant for fans ?

They are creating a Disney / Presley graveyard of low quality China made 'stuff'.

By the way, wasn't Prince against testing on animals by the chemics and pharma industries?

-

I don't want a fucking T-shirt of cap or mug, or that proposed fake concert ticket and backstage pass that will be included in the next SDE of W2A. Let alone fukcing make-up.

I mean... come on... from all Prince fans out there I bet there are maybe 15 people younger than 20 who like whatever cheap stuff from thier idols.

By the way, most 20 year old have no idea who Prince is nowadays.

Except for maybe just his name found on a T-shirt in a second hand store - thinking it looks vintage and cool.

-

This is a (another) serious low point in choices The Estate is making.

I'm about to give up, give in.

Seriously sad.

All I mean is my best friend, she is Jamaican, she has a mid brown skin tone, I'm white. We don't suit the same colours. There's always the odd one that overlaps but we suit different things. So my post was really that can one pallette generate that much income for the estate as if its engineered to copy prince, not everyone shares his tones so will it sell well unless you are similar. It was more that if the Estate are looking to maximise profits can one pallette do that for this reason?

That isn't really the point of this little exercise. It's about SEO, SEM, branding and market testing ahead of a new release.

I mean, as long as your foundation is right, any skin tone can work with any color combo, tbh. Assuming the product itself is quality and has strong pigmentation, as well. I have seen every skin color use every color shadow and it's the foundation and the person's skill at applying makeup that tells the tale here.

If a product line is a mess, though, it ain't good for any skin color.

Sheesh. It's not one guy doing all the work, there is a company that gets offers and decides which ones to take. Doing this doesn't block everything else, because "Timmy" now has to spend all his time focusing on this instead of on the next SDE or whatever.

Beauty Bakerie is a great choice. Juvia's Place would've been great, too. Juvia's is the best full coverage foundation out there. The liquid is more matte, but the foundation sticks have a nice glow to them. And so many colors for non-white folks. I love that their darkest shade starts at 100, not a light caucasian shade. And that they're all named for places in Africa.

I don't know that there will be a whole line of stuff. I would assume a palette and maybe some lipstick. I don't expect foundation or eyeliner or even mascara. I also don't think it's going to be all these super bright colors that other people may expect.

I suppose we'll find out more in a few short weeks.

I want this to be good and i want it to sell, prince's name is attached to it. All these replies make me think maybe I'm just being very down on it all as its not what I myself want. More music and video. Plus, as was pointed out, if the skill is in the application, I'm not a skilled artist so perhaps those that are would promote the shit out of this and it would be big. I hope so. I like threads like this that change my mind
