The upload by the estate of this video is probably linked to a limited edition single on vinyl and T-shirts by the PSG (Paris soccer team)

First song - great.

Everything else is embarrassing. Why couldn’t prince just let this so called ‘Rock’ band play rock songs, rather than a rehash of pop classics. 🙄🙄

I really believe Prince lost his nerve and vision for 3rd eye girl.

You actually triggered a gripe of mine. lol
With the 2014 tour I felt that Prince was using a hammer to plug a screw by using the 'rock' band for his funkstuff. Or vice versa if you want a screwdriver's back to hammer down a nail.

The 3rdeye brought him alot and I think he really needed that as fuel but as band it didn't work for me for the things outside 'rock'.

well they were doing mainly rock stuff in the beginning, in small venues Once they moved to arenas Prince must have felt hes got to some some crowd pleasers back in

I agree, it doesn't sound much different from when he played these exact same hits a few years before with the NPG. I guess as he moved away from the small clubs he played with 3EG in the beginning to bigger venues he wanted to introduce more hits to please the crowds...
If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Actually saw 3EG in London’s KOKO and I believe he was more committed to the band and their rock feel, however seeing Joshua come to the centre with a cow bell was a bit much

The first leg of the tour when they were playing all-rock material in clubs was simply amazing. The finest form I'd seen Prince in for years.

The second leg in arenas with additional keyboards and vocalists was not as energised, raw and impassioned, but did have its moments. Prince's rendition of 'Little Red Corvette' on May 19 in Birmingham, UK, was mesmerising, almost hymnal and his shadow-boxing and 'possessed' hand during 'What's My Name' was sublimely awesome and uniquely Prince.

As though, with many of Prince's officially released live performances, I don't think this excerpt really reflects any of the magic of that second leg of the tour and the crowd seem dead and mostly flat.

I'm glad this is back up. Clearly shows that even later Prince was not to be fucked with in a live setting. No matter what you felt about 3EG, they did their jobs. On paper them set lists didn't look too pleasing but in person, that shit is just different. Feels different seeing and hearing it live. That tour in early 2014 got RAVE reviews. His concerts were still selling out quickly and at high prices til the very end. Say what you want but the numbers don't lie no matter how negative most of his fan base is a lot of the time.

I do agree that I preferred them early on. Hannah is not a funk drummer and Donna is not a funk player. As time went on, their weaknesses in that area started to show. Ida carried the band during the hits period. Regardless, the show I saw at the Mohegan Sun in 2013 was fantastic.!

I dig the early rock oriented 3EG shows and the big band NPG of this era - but this stripped down hit n run deal sounded and looked tired to me.

I saw the London Roundhouse shows in 2014 and thought it was the nuts. The atmosphere was amazing.

The clips of the Manchester gigs and Portugal look the same in regards crowd feedback.

Didn't see any reviews less than 4*. Personally I put this up there as one of his best tours that I saw, and I saw a fair few.

Not a fan of this performance... Prince was off, and so was his guitar work. I've seen plenty of amazing live clips with Third Eye Girl. This is not one of them.

Like i said, it seems that he just does a routine, and i can't see much pleasure in what he does.
As if he has no 'fun' in the sense of the word.
The music is tight and cool, ok.
But still, no smiles, no real 'party-fun', as if he doesn't get down with his fellow musicians or the public, and just performes the payed-entertainement routine.
I can't enjoy this.
...and he never seems to smile anymore during his last tours. Or at least very little.
Don't you all notice that ?

I agree with some of this. I still think Prince was in an unsettled position musically. He started a rock band, then he went and started the Piano tour, then he had this other jazz/funk thing with MonoNeon, et al. I feel like he was a little lost maybe (he was human after all) and he was searching for something musically and hadn't found it just yet. And maybe with the addiction mixed in, it might have been a difficult time for him.

And so with this performance it feels uninspired (mind you it's only 5 songs). "Cool" does bring the temperature up and he sounds more at home there.

You're right. Seen him on 3 tours, and in 2014 he was smiling very little. Check out the footage LA 2004 musicology where he has people up on stage and his interaction with them.

I saw the 2 Manchester Academy shows and the 2 Manchester Arena shows. The arena shows lacked the energy or focus of the Academy shows and he brought back the cheap sounding synths and keyboards that had marred his live shows since '97. Even the band didn't seem as interested at the arena shows. Suffice to say they were all amazing shows, but night and day in terms of atmosphere. Also, I remember thinking he didn't look well during the arena shows, I was in the first few rows and noticed he looked very thin and tired. Even on the C2C video, he doesn't look right.

I think he missed a trick by not releasing Plectrumelectrum in between the two tours. By the time it was released, the excitment of those initial Hit & Run shows in the UK was completely gone.
