Yes, what are their goals?

It appears they are not monetizing the music to the maximum possible.

They are not resolving the Estate's issues in a most efficient manner.

They are not even trying to maximize the inheritance towards the heirs.

Fortunately, I try respectfully to say, that that is not your problem.

I would not let any of that stuff become my problem, to be honest. I am a happy spectator toward the process, albeit with my own ideas. At any rate, what would you believe that U really know is true what the estate is or is not doing? I think that all of our imaginations run off to some degree regarding what we would like to see come to light regarding conservstion and production of Prince stuff, but I think we could all better enjoy the flowers of spring.

Yes!! Been saying this!! They could bring back Purple Pick of The Week if they make a new deal with TIDAL. Or they can call it ‘Purple Pick of the Month’ or whatever

But true singles would be good also.

Speaking of B-Sides, streaming services need to find a way to re-introduce an innovative, modern B-Side system to show to the youth how cool it was to flip a 12” and have a different song there

They should come up with entirely new concept, C-Sides. C for cover, as in covers of well known and lesser known P songs, performed by substandard self-promoting youtube folk. And call it 'Purple Prick of the Month' or week or whatever.

Did I ever insinuated that i wanted to plan my trip to PP ?

It's just an exhibitions in his former building, and from the exhibition I saw in Holland?...

No thank you. I'd love my Prince in his old fashion mysteries.

I'm not at all in favor of that kind of idolatry anyway.

And I don't care that much for his lifestyle, clothes, heels, buildings, cars or candles and mugs, etc.

I'm purely in it for the music. His music and related, amongst many other artists.

Peace though. smile

Yes, it's almost hard to believe he only started recording at Paisley Park aged 29. And most of the classic 80s stuff he recorded in LA and elsewhere came before.

not been to PP, not really done any virtual tours either, so idk what its like to be there.

is it that special?

the problem with PP is that its a studio. and its not being used as one.

thats what they need to do first.

only then will it become self sufficient again.

the museum and stuff is cool, but that exists elsewhere in the complex.

so if its not being used as a studio, or rehearsal space, or for filming, then what is it? just a dead, disused space not breaking even.

they need to make a proper museum space elsewhere.

make some money from the site by selling it.

it doesnt sound like an especially attractive place to visit, but i could be wrong

PP hasn't been a functional studio (outside of Prince's own work) since the mid-1990s, same for the soundstage. Is there even value in renting it out at a moment that well-known studios in prominent places are closing down?

.

Also, part of the draw in those early years was the idea that you could run into Prince.

It's an attractive place to visit, especially walking through the hallways where Prince once roamed and being in the studios where Prince made a ton of great material.

It's not a soulless experience to be there, not at all. It's just so far away from everything . . . that's what Prince wanted when he was alive, but as a museum, it's not ideal.

The only reason why I would visit Paisley Park is to pay tribute to the very first recordings he did there for the ''Lovesexy'' album (and lateron the ''Rave...'' and ''Batman'' recordings).

An album that stood for a big change in his life, musically, spiritualy as wel as technically / recording wise.

He was able to recorded in first and fresh own planed universe.

As you come to mention this, I just watched the other day some sort of documentary plus some video shots mad eby some fans i believe of this wonderful run-down stucio complex by the Canadian band Rush (I was a huge Rush fans in the early eighties).

It hurted to see that. Anyways...

Band studio's like that all have an expire date I belive, No?

-

After years of recording in Sunset Sound (and several other studios), Prince probably knew exactly what he had in mind to build PP, obviously bigger and more posh.

And with a more commercial approach of use.

-

You said, well-known studios are closing down. Yes. No, there are new ones created too.

Still there are well-known studios that remain at work, albeit with completely upgraded gear.

Abbey Road Studios has both, the older and newer gear.

-

Nowadays there are new studios being build by new hot contemporary producers.

My thing is, are these studios like a real recording studio use dot be ?

Meaning, most recordings these days are focused on electronics and synths, with few accoustic instruments facitilies. Except for a piano.

Recording studios like Lenny Kravitz', Rush's, Prince's, and so many others older types of studios are way too expensive to maintain.

Of course, analog tape machines, reel to reel gear etc are still needed. Just for remastering older stuff alone. But also that will come to some end. WHo knows.

It's not about band studios. ALL studios suffer. Tons of legendary studios have closed their doors. There are no massive recording budgets anymore. I was reading something about a record Foreigner were doing in the 80s and it ended up costing them $5 million IIRC and then they were extremely lucky because it became a massive hit.

.

Prince's Sunset Sound bills must have been astronomical. On top of that the bills for all those studios he used while on the road, and shipping tapes back and forth.

.

After years of recording in Sunset Sound (and several other studios), Prince probably knew exactly what he had in mind to build PP, obviously bigger and more posh.

.

IIRC PP studios were modeled on SS.

.

And PP operating as a business was likely a condition of the loans.

.

IIRC PP was bleeding money by the mid-190s though, I recall reading it losing $250,000 per month. By then Prince had closed shop for outside business of course. Things were so dire that one Minneapolis newspaper ran a multi-day series of articles on Prince not paying his bills and causing the closure of a local videographer.

.

Abbey Road is legendary, plus it is also a massive tourist attraction. PP is nowhere in that league.

I have no intention of visiting PP any time soon or ever. I think it's one of those experiences that would give me more displeasure than pleasure. It it's a museum vibe, it would be too close to me and depressing. If it's more schmaltzy it would just piss me off. And I could probably go to Tenerife for a 1 week holiday 3 times for the cost of what it would take to travel to Chanhassen including all necessary expenses. May be easier for Americans of course. I've been to Chanhassen a couple of times (on google street maps) and it reminds me of Welwyn Garden City but less pretty or interesting. Do all American towns comprise just restaurants, nail/tanning salons, pharmacies and the odd insurance, or finance office? Soulless.

No interest basically in reminding oneself he's no longer here. Or being shown round by a guide who says stuff like 'the doves only coo when enough people come to visit'. My only motivation would be, can i hide myself away past doors closing time so I can burrow a tunnel through to the 'egg' from the main building. Just to see what's there. Like another vault or something. Or some interesting porn that P forgot about. Or Carmen Electra in some kind of cryogenic chamber.

Lol. First time I've every heard a Welwyn comparison. lol

Channhassen is a lot sleepier and smaller than Welwyn. It is a typical mid-west town with a lot of retail life sucked out of it by the big superstores (like the nearby Target).

By the way, Prince was in Welwyn once. I wonder what he thought of it.
