One of the P&B crew suggested this, too, but someone else countered that starting with the strongest, most energetic song could make everything else that comes after it sound weak in comparison. It's better to have the song later in the sequence because everything is building toward it. It's the perfect climax for the album.

I had no idea this song was so well loved. When I stated this thread I assumed the responses would be mixed, as they are for most songs (we Prince fans have a very wide range of tastes). But it looks like there is literally only one person so far who's said they don't think the song is all that great.

I do agree with others that Lovesexy is one of his best...All of the different aspects make it have a real magical quality.

Great song on a very good album. I still play it often.

When I hear 1999, Lovesexy, and Fury back to back, I hear a certain similar musical idea in the heavy slow motion lead line keyboard intro. With Lovesexy there's something heavy and clockwork about all the patterns that doesn't have that bounce to my ears. Fury the studio version also has a flatness to it.

But 1999 has energy and bounce.

For religious joy, the sound of Eye Know or The Line really capture energy for me.

^^I agree^^...When I first heard the song "Lovesexy", the tempo, energy and synth-horn stabs reminded me a lot of the song "1999". Great song from a great album.

Take a listen to "Higher Than High" from Tony LeMans Paisley Park album.

Which is a great album if you haven't heard it, I recommend it.

That's the Lovesexy refrain. Wikipedia says that track had Sly Stone input. Released in 1989. I wonder which track was written first.

i cant answer that question for Prince...we know the man was very sexual and very experimental...for further clarity, just play the record and listen closely...very closely...if you have it on vinyl, its even more obvious...and a song called Anal Control or songs with obvious lyrics about butt sex or peeing during or after ejaculation, obviously wouldnt have made it onto a Warner Brother released album due to censorship concerns

Perfectly superimposed over Prince's left thigh is the . In the credits, you'll notice that : Prince.

It fits too perfectly to be an accident.

It's a reference to Alphabet Street where a known technique for giving cunnilingus is to write the alphabet with your tounge (this works btw). He's saying "write my name on your walls" by spelling "Prince" with his tounge on her vagina.

Cleary he is being consistent and using a euphemism. Granted, "Swivel in your loveseat" is a bit weird. I always thought it was "Swim in your love sea" which I interpreted to mean cunnilngus.

i'm usually an RJOrion defender except when he's going on about prince's dna or some shit, but there's no way there's a line in this song about urinating into a woman's anus.
