I hope it is not purple vinyl, they seem to want overuse this color where it has absolutely no relavence. ONA for example, that vinyl should have been ivory white or clear white, perhaps with the black piano notes moving out an inch or so from center. THAT would have been relavent.

Have not really thought about what they should do with The Truth, any ideas? I just know it should not be purple.

They got SOTT and TRC vinyl right though.

Well, considering the lettering on the original CD, red would be appropriate. Regardless, since the point about Prince and purple etc. needs to be driven home to every single organism on planet Earth, it'll be purple once again.

It should be black vinyl. Because all records should always be black vinyl. Always. Without exception. Because coloured vinyl is garish and childish and pointless. I have never seen a piece of coloured vinyl that wouldn't have looked better if it was black vinyl.

I hate coloured vinyl with a passion. These are not f'ing toys. They are records.

No, he wasn't too competent as a businessman in the last 20 years of his life. HOWEVER, the fans did get more product out of Prince in those years, than most musicians have to offer in a whole lifetime (regardless of the quality of the music itself).

LOL. "It was shit, but there was looots of it!"

.

AND: during his classic period, Prince was signed to WB after all. Hardly an incompetent decision to begin with.

.

Oh please, don't pretend teen Prince could foresee WBR being extremely lenient in those early years, allowing him to spend the budget of three albums on a single flop, or WBR being crazy enough to finance his movie, or WBR spending fortunes on him taking up residency at Sunset Sound, or WBR helping finance Paisley Park., or WBR allowing him numerous side projects which evolved into a vanity label (which eventually lost MILLIONS of their money).

.

Focus on what happened post-1980s, when Prince replaced his management by people who wouldn't stand up to him.

.

What remains in the end? Without being apologetic of Prince's shortcomings - Crystal Ball "fiasco" memories, or a mind-blowing amount of new songs?

[Edited 4/1/21 11:41am]

.

For plenty of people, the CB fiasco still lingers. They never got compensated for not getting their set. And even among those who got it, plenty still felt cheated since their discs arrived scratched, or because the set didn't have a booklet, or because their set arrived months after it appeared in stores,... And this is merely the first of many such incompetent "business ventures". There's also the wildly incompetent NPGMC v1, or the fact that in its first year NPGMC most months didn't fulfill the contractual minimum requirements for premium members, or the shitty bootleg VHS copies they sold, or the DRM-protected WMAs that stopped working when Prince abandoned the website, or the DOA website of Lotusflow3r, etc. etc. etc.

As described often enough, there were plenty of "red flags" to give reason to walk away from Prince after 1998, or to at least have learnt a few lessons and take a cautious approach. I received the CB set and ensuing War cassette in fine form, but regardless, based on others' descriptions of the "fiasco", I wasn't ever again tempted to shell out any money to Prince for anything but records made available in brick-and-mortar shops. CB should've been an eye-opener to everyone, but some people just never learn. As I have stated above, I'm not excusing his business conduct over the last 20 years - call them "incompetent", dishonest or criminal: all adjectives apply - but let's be honest here and not exempt the consumer from his co-responsibilty. It does always take plenty of fools for the snake-oil charmer to keep getting away with the b.s. Any sane Prince-fan should have no reason to focus on anything but the music (and yes, lots of it post-Warner Bros was dreadful).

Looking forward to this release having recently rediscovered this album. Not a classic album but some terrific and beatiful songs imo, particularly Comeback and Welcome 2 the Dawn. Will be nice to have it on vinyl as an individual release.

I find it quite strange that certain posters here (one in particular it seems almost every time I pop my head in here) are so negatively fixated on how competent Prince was as a businessman. He made millions and may have lost or wasted millions, but really who cares! Like everyone he made mistakes in his life, but unlike most he was a genius who brought and continues to bring untold joy to millions all over the world - that is his true legacy.

I'm just glad he put most of his energy into being a great musician and producing an incredible amount of music (yes even his last 20 years) that I'm still discovering to this day and with much more to look forward to it would appear. Cannot wait unde the next SDE!

He wasn't using record sales for the bulk of his income. No one is anymore and haven't been for a good while. Prince figured out a way to make more money on each sale for the most part but success in the music industry hasn't been centered around album sales for well over a decade now.

That's a good point actually and I wish they'd change up the colors.

Someone I think made a post saying that this actually really difficult to do -- and maybe so, I dunno -- but I agree. SO many of his albums seemed to have a color theme and wasn't always just purple.

SoTT: Peach and Black
Parade: Black and White
Rainbow Children: Rainbow
The Gold Experience: Gold
The Black Album: Black
Lovesexy: Blue and Pink/pastels and neon

Diamonds and Pearls seemed like he was pushing the yellow pretty hard.

David Bowie released two albums in 2013 and 2016, and they both sold 2 millions copies. That s 20 times more than the last Prince albums.

We could also talk about Bob Dylan...The three of them were all very prolific and had decades of carreer ( in fact Bowie had even one decade more than Prince, and Dylan two decades more!)

The word is meant to be spelled 'amore'. That seems to be a mistake on Prince's part on the original release.

I'm not interested in sales one iota.

And if you're still negatively impacted or traumatised by the Crystal Ball 'fiasco' in 1998 you have clearly experienced very few genuine problems in your life.

To insist on being victimised by a botched pre-order over two decades later? I was accidentally charged twice for the Lotusflow3r site, then refunded. It was inconvenient at the time, but is hardly an issue in my life now, nor reflective of my experiences with Prince as a whole.

That's not accurate, actually. Amour is the corrent usage... it's French from the Latin 'amor', meaning love.... and the English language has adopted 'Amour' as the common usage. 'Amore' is the Italian way of saying 'Amour'.... just ask Dean Martin ('That's Amore').... this is probably why it's been listed as 'Circle Of Amore'.... it's a reasonable usage, in terms of sense, but as Prince called the track 'Circle Of Amour' (correctly), that's what the track should be called. Even if Amour was the wrong usage, that's what Prince called the track. We don't correct 'I Would Die 4 U'.

You sure about that? Because in 2013/14 he was on Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Fallon, and had a whole episode of Arsenio Hall. He was due to do a special on the BBC in spring 2016.

I wasn't arguing that other artists didn't outsell Prince and obviously when I said "no one is making real money selling albums", it was a bit of hyperbole and an overall general statement. Could Prince have moved more product? Probably. The artists you mentioned had a much better online distribution method than Prince ever managed, for one one thing, in ways that were a lot more fan friendly. And two examples of legendary acts outselling Prince hardly constitutes a trend.

I just meant that Prince seemed to realize pretty early on that, for him, the money wasn't in moving physical product and, in a few cases, he treated his albums like give aways (Musicology, 20Ten, Planet Earth). It could be argued that he didn't do himself any favors by scrubbing the interenet of his live shows and stuff too.

Musicians are on the record lamenting the inability to make any real money on recorded music, what with stuff like YouTube playing thier shit for free and streaming services like Pandora paying fractions of a penny on the dollar. The record industry used to tell us they couldn't pay artists because their overhead was too high in manufacturing and promotion costs but most of that is gone now and the acts are getting screwed even worse.

You almost have to be a legend in your own right first, with a dedicated fan base, to take advantage of monetizing the product and, even though Prince fits that category, he didn't seem to me to be focusing much on albums as his main revenue stream.
