Barry White after he was castrated had the best falsetto known to man. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

I thought no one would listen to news unless they were huge prince fans You are wrong, terribly wrong. In France, the most listened to webradio, ERFM, broadcasts a 14 minute song from News at least once every fucking day. |

NEWS is a brilliant listen. It's not all jazz but there are jazz components in it. It's closer to fusion than anything else. I always say this and I always believe it. If you, joe bloggs or anyone else don't listen to, and appreciate all genres then there's something lacking, probably in the temporal lobe.
The only music I've never liked is serialism (even though I like some atonal music) and 'growl' metal, basically any sub-genre of metal where the vocals growl at you. Garage and grime, I can't comment because I've not really heard.
But to answer question, did singing in falsetto limit princes appeal? No. Releasing 'too many albums' was what limited Prince's appeal. If Michael Jackson had released nearly as much, like say 25 albums, people would've got sick of him. Most people tuned out of Prince in the early 90s. The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

Yeah in the 80s and 90s artists released less but they should have just let him release more but keep some very low key with a push for others Then again I know he would have wanted a big push for everything lol |

Come, Chaos & Disorder, Old Friends 4 Sale were all low key releases. Whereas MJ's Dangerous album had so many singles released people lost count. Not even a major P album would've had that many singles. No way would the record company have allowed it. Why? Because an album every year turns off most 'fans'. in a way you are right
unless youre a hardcore fan, an album a year is not something youll be keeping track of or seeking out all the time
unless its the 1960s i think people need time to miss you
and prince wasnt good at letting people miss him
in some ways the way he worked later was better, indie releases every so often, then a major label release every so often too, a sort of 'one for me, one for you' kind of deal |

It detracted because the weak minded get, and got, caught up in societal programming. Their loss......

Yes, it absolutely limited his appeal amongst white rock fans. Believe me, i've had that conversation. That's on them though. Same people who are like "i wish he had more guitar and less synths." |

No they are not. They mostly are dude. Controversy : the verses and the background vocals contains all along of the song voices in falsetto. There s only the part " My father... " That is sang with his deep voice, And even that is disputable since there are screams im falsetto When Doves Cry after the edit version at like 3:30, it s mostly on fsetto with scream amd background vocals. Prince did what MJ did with background vocals, especially after 1987: record 4 voices in falsetto, 4 voices in a "normal" Voice, 4 voices in a deeper tone, 4 voices in another range, etc. |

Dude, what the hell? No one (bar you apparently) thinks of that when they think of When Doves Cry. The entire song is sung in a deep voice and then he screams a lot while the music plays out. |

Seriously, I can be objective since I listened to Prince albums with many haters of his falsetto voice.
So, now it s impossible to not hear he sings and screams A LOT in WDC.
If it never occured to you, I think YOU have obviously a problem preventing you from hearing his falsetto.
And the music " Plays out" As you said, for like 2 minutes, which is not nothing. [Edited 3/23/21 5:24am] |

Ask 1000 people to sing When Doves Cry and 999 of them will sing the lyrics starting at the beginning and 1 person (you) will start squealing the last two minutes of the song.
But yes, I concede that objectively speaking there is falsetto on the song, duh. |

In another dimension called The Spooky Zone, Jimmy Hendrix and Sly Stone did Woodstock when Prince was 11, made numerous covers of Rolling Stone. MJ was the first artist ever to have 4 top ten hits with the same album ( Off The Wall). He had a band named the J5 where his 6 first singles were #1 in the US. Diana Ross had like 20 #1s before Prince ever hit the top ten. There was also a guy named James Brown, but he barely deserved to be quoted here. Gladly, here, we have Prince, the only black who ever crossed over. |
