Noticing the credits list the song as written by Prince Rogers Nelson. It's previously been credited to Prince & The N.P.G. Is the band being cheated out of royalties or have they been bought off? Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

I get your point, and I agree it would be wrong to re-release Prince's recording without the NPG credit, but this is a different context - if the band aren't on the registration than they wouldn't/shouldn't be listed as authors.

That was a pleasant surprise. Brought back memories from college when some friends (casual Prince fans) actually enjoyed the song (I cringe lol) and sing along with it when it comes on the radio. "I want to be the only one you come for...."

That line is pretty simple to play on guitar. It's just boxed in notes. "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

Yeah, the clothes were eye-catching! I did notice the "Puma" logo on alot of the younger attire. "Whatever skin we're in

Really looking forward to seeing this film. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I think you need to get new ears.
For what it's worth, I really enjoyed the film. It was never going to be a patch on the original nor is it anywhere near as funny, but the way they reprised many of the original characters was done in a really effective manner. Even Double Destiny aka Peaches & Sugar Cube pop up!

Your ears don't work fine. The sung vocal in the soundtrack is falsetto, Prince's vocal in the original isn't. Even Van Gogh on the left side of his head would have been able to hear that it's not a "manipulation" of the original vocal.

Here's an idea - maybe watch the whole film first of all?

I'm very confised by some of the comments in this thread, that seem to display a lack of even basic sense....
For one, the Gett Off performance is so clearly not Prince I don't know what other words to use to get that point across....
I don't know about who was credited for the use of Gett Off, but it matters little what is actually written in the credits.. whoever is due their royalties will get their royalties.....
Eddie Murphy is known to be a huge Prince fan across the years, so it was clearly a way of paying homage to one of his musical heroes in a fun way that mostly fitted into the plot and did so in a way that clicked with and echoed the style of the original Coming To America.
And for anyone to critcise the music, jokes, plot devices or (small 'p') political stance of the film WITHOUT BOTHERING TO WATCH IT, just beggars belief.
'The subservient woman thing is a little old now?' Oh really, ya think? Well maybe if you bothered to watch the film, you'd see there was more to it than that.....
There's a little thing called conflict that is the engine that makes stories compelling, makes them work.
You have to start with an imperfect world, an obstacle to happiness, that the characters then have to grapple with, in order to grow and hopefully achieve their goals and dreams.
Telling stories where every situation and character is perfect, fine and dandy will equal no stories, no books, no films, no TV very quickly....
Anyway..... I really enjoyed Coming 2 America. As others have said, it wasn't as good as the original, but it's made with such a sense of fun and with a smile on its face, that it just works. It's not cinematic masterpiece, nor is it trying to be... it just wants you to have fun and a few laughs for a couple of hours, and to me and my partner it most certainly succeeded on that front.

This film is not going to age well Nod to current tech Loads of refs to politicial climate Horrible long never ending dance sequences Don't get me started on the gett off scene If they'd cut the stream of musical numbers it would've been a good start Eddie and Arsenio were a joy together
