%#}} yeah, I pre-ordered Duane Tudahl’s new book! His stuff is simply vital for Prince fans.
Jaw-dropping in it’s research and curation. |

I bought the purple rain era one & wondered if the updated version is worth seeking out, I’d rather not buy the same book twice. |

Ordered it too.
I would have thought, seeing as Duane works for The Estate, that the Pardade Super Deluxe would be a perfect accompaniment to his new book. That way we’d have Sign and Parade outtakes to enjoy while we read about the era. Makes total sense.
But according to latest rumours it’ll be Diamonds & Pearls.
Oh well. “Tuna, you better do something or else we gonna have to put you back in the can!” |

He doesn't work for the estate anymore than Jill Jones, The Revolution, Cat, or Levi do. He was a contract-for-hire consultant on a project or two. |

Duane is an official archival researcher for the estate. That's his "day job," and the Studio Sessions books are his passion project/side gig. He keeps both jobs separate; the books aren't coordinated with the estate's music releases, as some had hoped they would be. He explained this in his YouTube Q&A on Sunday.
I ordered two signed copies of the upcoming book: one for me, and one for my sister, who's the person that got me into Prince. <3 https://www.youtube.com/@PurpleKnightsPodcast |

it's unfortunate that the estate doesn't have any interest in contributing/helping duane make the book even more filled out and complete (even though i'm sure it's mostly there as-is)
which is to say that, based on my understanding of his words during that recent interview, if there's something he's only aware of due to estate-provided vault access for his work in the official releases, he won't (can't, more likely) include it in the book unless that same info is given to him through his independent research.
which tells me they really have no interest in doing justice in an academic sense to the amount of recordings present, regardless of what documentation they may be keeping in-house. |

Ah ha! Thanks for the correction. Good to know going forward. I dig his tireless work so I'm into it. |

This is really unfortunate, and it honestly makes me a bit upset, but I suppose it's how things have to be.

no the thread was not derailed and no the question was not bizarre
in reality, you both are complaining about inconsequential shit
and, in me making this post, i too am complaining about inconsequential shit.
to answer the question, no the expanded version isn't worth paying for another copy if you already have one. just do some searching here and try to glean the few updates there were off this site. |
