No, it is not his greatest ballad ever, but it is a lovely song. I'm not sure I could name a greatest or favourite ballad as he has so many great ones to choose from.

Greatest Romance is even betta.

I'm more interested in the lyrics as he is sharing on a deep level.

Well, a ballad is a poem, usually set to music, that tells a story.... so yep, it's a ballad. And it's great. His vocal on it is incredible.

nah, "Adore" is a timeless standard...a long honored historical artifact of R&B/Black Music culture.

I think we could agree both are in the top tier.

It's certainly up there.

The screaming at the end is some of his best - always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

It's hard to argue with Do Me, Baby, Adore and The Beautiful Ones being in the very top tier.

Yes I agree. For me it's a stunning song. It's so well written, and actually has a great chorus unlike so much of his later work. His vocal is amazing and the lyrics are fairly devastating. This song gets me every time. If it had been better produced (just a better drum sound would have been transformative) and mastered (distortion? wtf?) it would have been one of his best ever. It is still a career highlight as far as I'm concerned.

I like it but it's kind of ruined by the horrible mix and mastering. That bass in the chorus sounds terrible.
