I still have purchased the book.

I think we need to keep some of the 'flaws' in mind but buy the book.

I have a sinking feeling that we as Prince fans don't support efforts that are being made

to feed his legacy.

"Tainted" why? Because he works for the estate? Duane clearly explained that his work for the estate is not connected to his books, and vice versa. What's the problem?

I'm getting tired of people crapping all over everything the estate does. They're far from perfect, but at least they're making an effort. I'm just grateful they haven't followed the blueprints of the Michael Jackson estate. neutral

What's stopping them from looking at artists who do serious archival releases and take a note from them??

Exactly my thoughts.

"Tired" is the word...

'Fans' seem to find all kinds of reasons as to why they can't/won't invest in the recent albums;

now it's Duane's book. A fickle group.

I've been reading the down-loaded first chapter and it now seems very clear to me. Prince

was compelled to write and record. It did not seem to be much of a choice.

Even after sound-checking, performing in the main show, followed by after-shows, he had to

find studios in every circumstance.

It sounded exhausting to me but I think that was where he gained energy.

A few people have commented on this over the years; writing songs is how he made sense of the world and communicated with others. They say he wasn't shy as such, but had difficulty in communicating with people in other more standard ways. It makes sense to me.

He specifically said that he wouldn't and didn't put certain stuff in the book because of his association with them. on top of the fact that he has a very clear Revolution bias.

1983-1986 has a clear Revolution bias.

That is NOT what he said. He stated that he couldn't divulge any sources belonging to the Estate discovered in his work an a researcher for them but that he could certainly use other outside sources unrelated to the Estate to prove the same facts. And I saw no indication of a "very clear Revolution bias." rolleyes Those were the peak years of Prince's time with the revolution so, of course, there is a lot of focus on it.

I think people ultimately take issue with his editorializing on the content which I think one may naturally do when the facts are verified on both sides. Unfortunately the average diehard prince fan thinks their headcanon is more important and they really don't .ind loads of confirmation bias.

As I read the first chapter, I am hyper-alert to an overemphasis on the Revolution.

It's been refreshing to read more of Lisa's observations, as she has tended to remain in the background in the past.

I tend to take Wendy's statements w/a grain of salt as she is egoistic in my view.

So far, I am seeing more of Lisa and a few statements from B.Z and M.F. but they have been less

of a verbal presence in the past. Susan Rogers can be a bit annoying to me as well and I often take her personal observations of Prince w/some reluctance but I do enjoy her engineering insights

Some of Prince's charity work is so endearing.
