No, it is not his greatest ballad ever, but it is a lovely song. I'm not sure I could name a greatest or favourite ballad as he has so many great ones to choose from.

Is it a ballad? Modern prince classic though, yes

I'm more interested in the lyrics as he is sharing on a deep level.

Well, a ballad is a poem, usually set to music, that tells a story.... so yep, it's a ballad. And it's great. His vocal on it is incredible.

I don’t think it’s the greatest but it’s up there. I love the way he switches to his lower register in the second half and Andy’s backing vocals

Greatest? To me it's The beautiful Ones.

No. "Adore" is his best ballad ever. I Hate U Do Me Baby (the OG, really) Joy In Repetition One Kiss At A Time The Question of U The Beautiful Ones
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

not even top 10... great lyrics, but music was not as great.. not nearly as good as Adore, Condition Of The Heart or Its Gonna Be Lonely

I Love U But I Don't Trust U Anymore is his finest ballad to me.

After watching Brittany Howard cover this song, I really think it is a great song. You all should check it out in YouTube. It is the 5th song in this live set:

It is a good song but not one of the best...very far from If i was ur girlfriend or i hate u...TB1s....something is missing from the song ...guitar solo part with an intensive section!

It's certainly up there.
The screaming at the end is some of his best - always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

It's hard to argue with Do Me, Baby, Adore and The Beautiful Ones being in the very top tier. . Although I'm all about The Hits edit of Do Me, Baby. The album version with the 'I'm so cold, hold me' brings a lump to the back of my shorts . Personally, I'd have Shhh and I Hate U near the top of my list

It's one of the greatest ballad from the later years but it's a shame it was badly recorded/mastered.

Yes I agree. For me it's a stunning song. It's so well written, and actually has a great chorus unlike so much of his later work. His vocal is amazing and the lyrics are fairly devastating. This song gets me every time. If it had been better produced (just a better drum sound would have been transformative) and mastered (distortion? wtf?) it would have been one of his best ever. It is still a career highlight as far as I'm concerned. PIPS! Eurgh...

I like it but it's kind of ruined by the horrible mix and mastering. That bass in the chorus sounds terrible. Check out The Collector's Guide to Prince on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/p...4ldzxwlEuy
