According to Princevault, that story doesn't hold up necessarily.

"Even when the song is credited solely to Prince, André Cymone has said it was his song and Pepé Willie has confirmed this statement. It seems likely André came up with the main groove or perhaps the music and Prince put lyrics to it, either lyrics he already had or something he wrote after the music was done."

I can see Prince putting lyrics to the song. He rewrote his own music (like "Elephants and Flowers"), and rewrote the lyrics to two of those Mazarati songs. I see it as a collaborative effort, but Prince snagged credit in full.

However, if Andre did come up with those lyrics, or the bulk of them, good on him even more. They sorta feel like Prince lyrics. Yet - do they sound like Prince lyrics because he learned from Andre's lyrics and used a similar lyrical formula later on, did Prince always have that in him to create those type of lyrics?

Whatever it is, I'd like to hear Andre's demo tape if there is one. Jesse posted his "Jungle Love" demo (which was remarkably well hashed out), so no reason Andre couldn't. Unless he just doesn't have it anymore.

I'm guessing at the very least that Prince heard it. And I know I want to.
