I always thought this whole project would have been good as a video album, sort of like "3 Chains Of Gold" but in this case with a little more of a story. Not enough to cary on through a whole movie, obviously, but as a thread spinning together something like 4 or 5 singles and videos, I think it would hold up well enough.

The album could have been only prince to start with. Then the singles could all contain songs from A: Prince and B: The time and C: Mavis/Robin/Tevin/Ingrid etc.

If the whole project did well on the charts and with critics, they could have released all the songs by

protege acts later on, on their own disc, with some extra prince tracks thrown in.

But the GB album itself would have felt better if it had at least 3 more great prince songs and none of that other stuff.

When they finally get to release GB SDE, it's gonna be something people eek

I just hope we won't have to wait 10 years to hear it...

Circa 1987 ‘Graffiti Wall’ artwork designs by artist Marjorie Fedyszyn for the proposed motion picture Graffiti Bridge. The designs comprise a three-piece standing layout, approximately measuring 16 x 9.25 when placed together, which depicts a large bridge with various graffiti tags against a cityscape background. The tags covering the bridge consist of various character names and song titles written for the original script, including: “Camille,” “Ruthie Washington,” “The Grand Progression,” “Almost,” “Levi,” “Sax,” “Angel,” “Miko,” “Joshua,” “Big Sister,” “Melody Cool,” “Vienn[a],” “Gruff,” and “Beatown.”

they won't do it right. this is the era i have the least faith in howe and co doing justice because of how scattered everything is... from the songs on the album themselves to the fact that the graffiti bridge concept was stopped and started so many times and went through so many iterations.

that being said, if it were done right, it would be the crown jewel of the SDE's

Boy is lonely on a burning hot summer night
He's looking for some action, he's looking for a fight
He's looking for a savior in a city full of fools
Maybe he just needs a good talker to give him a good talking to
Can we talk baby?
Strip down, strip down
I think I'm gonna fall in love tonight
Elephants and flowers
Hot sweaty light paints a picture red and gold
On a crowd of naked bodies stripped down to their very souls
How can he find a shy angel in a city so bold? (So bold)
He can't even find a place to dance, this is rock and roll
Strip down, strip down
Elephants and flowers

Is everybody ready?
Here we go
Love the one who is love (love)
The one who gives us the power (power)
The one who made everything (what?)
Elephants and flowers (what will he do?)
The one who will listen when all others will not (oh, yeah)
There will be peace for those who love God a lot
Elephants and flowers

Strip down
Think I'm gonna fall in love tonight
And when I do, there won't be no more (confusion)
There won't be no more (no tears)
There won't be no more enemies, so that eliminates all the fear
And there won't be no sorrow (sorrow)
There won't be no pain (no pain)
There won't be no ball and no chain (no ball and no chain)
Strip down, strip down
Elephants and flowers
Boy is lonely on a burning hot summer night
He's looking for an angel to hold him 'til the morning light
Here we go
Love the one who is love (well)
The one who gives us the power (power)
The one who made everything (everything)
Elephants and flowers (oh, yeah)
The one who will listen when all others will not (all others will not)
There will be peace for those who love God a lot
Here we go
Love the one who is love (love)
The one who gives us the power (power)
The one who made everything (what?)
Elephants and flowers (what will he do?)

oh you are talking about the released movie.
This thread is more focused on the original scripted movie(no Time) and the music that was recorded for it, but were mostly unleased. That's why it's titled Bridge of Graffiti, based on the piano demo.

The two piano demos though short and unfinished, show so much promise and are interesting melodically. I only hope Prince developed them further and that one day we'll hear them in full. I'm guessing that the script changing and Prince reverting back to his former character of The Kid was what caused him to retreat to the vault for earlier songs?

Thanks for a fascinating thread. What could have been...

Just wanted to note that this is actually a mock-up of the mural that DID appear in the studio at Paisley around 89–90 (but replace) some time in late nineties or early 2000s??). Might well have been intended for GB movie, but looks like an awfully good fit for this exact spot.

Interesting to note the changes. 'Vienne' rpelaced by CND symbol. The year '82' removed. Anything else of note?

ah that is where I remeber this from. Thanks for posting this.

Interesting. It seems as far as I can see Vienna (Cat) was the only name removed, and Angel made bigger, replacing 82, I cannot see everything to the left

Hopefully someone else can confirm otherwise I'm losing my marbles which is worrying! nuts

I did the tour in 2018 and the wall was still there, but covered in a different (more 3rd Eye) mural, I think.

Great, now I know I didn't imagine seeing it.

There was so much to take in and I've slept a lot since then but now I'm trying to remember whereabout it was.

I seem to think it was kind of randomly placed but knew it was Graffiti Bridge(ish). Do you remember?

No, filming never started until after the Lovesexy band had split. Madonna departed this version of the script late 87 I thought, but Cat says during the Lovesexy tour

Cat (Glover): Prince, Madonna and I were the original lineup for Graffiti Bridge. That movie was strictly written for Prince, Madonna and myself. Period. Exclamation point.

That movie was actually written on the Lovesexy Tour. Everyone in that movie replaced us. Prince actually wrote the movie and most of it was what we experienced on the Lovesexy Tour. Madonna pulled out of the movie and I left Prince; I quit. So, he had to revamp the script.

That's when he got Ingrid Chavez and everyone else. But, Mavis Staples was one person that was originally supposed to be in the movie. She was always part of the movie. Sheila E. was part of the movie. Everyone else was a replacement. I don't mean to say it that way, it sounds kind of harsh and mean, but, I know the original script.

I was in the studio with Madonna and Prince when they were discussing the script. The story was totally different. I remember they were arguing over the script, bragging on each other, talking about each other's shoes and I was laughing. Madonna said to Prince "Cat and I should have a dance battle" and Prince said (speaking in a low raspy voice) "I don't think so. I don't think you want to do that. I don't think you want to dance against Cat." That's just how he said it. I'll never forget it.
That was two powerful people, together, in the same space—and me. I was more like a bystander listening and watching.

But, the whole movie changed.

It's interesting in the script, there is a line where Camille sends Angel out on her own to look for the Grand Progression, what he said sounded like a lead into him putting her back as a frontman protege
