Yeah.

I think it's a deliberate Jacko impression, but I think it's intended as a dig at WB - he's giving them the Prince they wanted for the sake of sales - a Jacko clone.

And then closes that album with the kiss-off The Sacrifice of Victor, that alludes to the imminent name-change.

Until this moment I never once associated the rough over the top gruff vocal of My Name is Prince with Michael Jackson... what??????????

I guess I can understand what you're talking about... but I don't know. I bet Prince could have done a very good MJ impersonation on the mic if he had been so inclined.

Perhaps its a stretch, but it's literally the only track that he performs in that manner.

Doesn't do it on any other 'hip-hop' oriented tracks.

This is the same time-period as the B-side "2 Whom It May Concern" (containing the line "There are no kings on this earth, only princes...").

"Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

Wait, he did a strained vocal on "Shut This Down"

The long version does it for me. The short one I can see could have more of a meh. BUT the version opening up the greatest movie ever... Pure magic!

Out of his classic great albums, I think "Christopher Tracy's Parade" is a bit of a sonic mess. Needed a few more passes

I def had this reaction off and on over the years. Some of those GB songs, when they were redone a bit or remix (whatever you wanna call it) sorta had a corny factor added to them. I like both versions of "We Can Funk," but "Can't Stop" probably faired better in the past.

I remember that first there were snippets of all the instruments on that song,

he gave us to play around with for some reason i forgot. (was it a competition?)

And they always remain in my mind as poor (produced) sounds.

Propably that's why I don't care much for it.

-

Although, Live somtimes it sounded better, with and killing bass, and more added funkier instruments.
