Do you think guys from Journey give themself too much credit?Jonathan Cain and Neil Schon said how Prince called and played over the phone Purple Rain and asks if it sounds too much like Faithfully .Do you think that call ever happend? Neal Schon that a photographer who worked with Prince said that Prince told him that his favourite guitar players are Bruce Springsteen John Mayer and Neil Schon

Springsteen, Mayer and Schon. I never heard them anywhere in relation to Prince's favorites. Maybe this was a secret Prince just shared with photographers, or his tongue was in his cheek at the time.

There was a music reporter that did an interview with P (early 80's) and noticed he had some vinyl albums laying around. One of them was "Escape"...P told the reporter that the album was good and that he loved Neal's guitar playing.

Prince said to Alan Leeds after Bruce guested on Baby Im A Star live "See i told you Springsteen can't play guitar " smile

I seem to recall hearing Prince say he learned to lead his band by watching Springsteen. He said Bruce could just move his hand and the band knew what to do. I don't think that was the exact words but I remember that from something.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

The chord progression is the same. Nothing else.

The interview is mentioned in this article:

https://ultimateprince.co...rple-rain/

“an anecdote...by mutual friend Rick Barron: “Late ‘80s and I am sitting with Prince on the floor in his apartment at Paisley Park. We’ve listened to Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel… I notice a worn Journey Escape record in his collection. Surprised, I turned to him and said, ‘Never took you for a Journey fan.’ He gave me that doe-eyed look that always made me uncomfortable and said: ‘Neal Schon is one of my favorite guitarists on the planet… he is a genius.’”
There may or may not be something coming!

'Faithfully' has barely got a a case.

I hate to mention it again, but Purple Rain 'borrows' extensively from:

'Words of Wisdom' (1983)

I have my doubts that that phonecall ever happened yeah. Its his take on 80s power ballads and heartland rock, all these songs borrow from another, it's kind of vibe music isn't it? Only the Marvin Gaye estate takes out legal cases over "vibes".

That riff in Faithfully sounds like a slowed down version of Way of the World by Cheap Trick, which itself is coming from stuff like So Sad About us by The Who and so on and so on
