One of my favorites but not one of his most popular albums. Only the hardcore fans will be checkin' for that SDE . I hope that's not what's coming up next. There's too much overlap with SOTT.
I'd rather have a Dirty Mind or Controversy era deluxe edition, personally.

I want all 3 of course. I thin each one will render 'More' outtakes' so that is even better

Same here.

But will the Estate think there's enough money in there to warrant these releases?

So far they wasted $50M and counting.

Did the PR, 1999 and SOTT bring in $50M or more?

I doubt it.

What do royalties and merchandise bring in these days?

They are running losses.

I don't believe any of those releases were intended to satisfy a $50m debt. They're investments in the catalog and in the fanbase.

I've always wondered why there seem to be some intrinsic differences between European and American preferences as it relates to Prince's work?

My guess is that Europeans appreciate art more than the whole pageantry thing. I'm in a minority but there are only like 2 songs on 1999 that get rotation in my brain, and I'd rather hear "HOW COME YOU DON'T CALL ME ANYMORE". Personally i tend to skip 1999 and CONTROVERSY in my brain space. Some good stuff but honestly, for folks who say Prince was inconsistent after leaving Warner Bros.... i beg to differ. Some of his most heralded albums are "duds" IMHO. it all just comes down to people and preferences and reactions. Delirious was never per4med better than it was on MUPPETS TONIGHT except for variants: All the critics - bleh something in the water is great with words International Lover is as Lukewarm as a Lionel Richie song I could go on but i won't. I think USA always goes for marketing blitzes. Has been for as long as I've been around. Sheeple do.

So when and how will the investment come to fruit?

When will the Holy Grail be released?

When the rumor came out that "Diamonds And Pearls" might be the next album to get the deluxe treatment. "Parade" ain't one of my favorite 80s albums. "Dirty Mind" and "Controversy" are my next choices but I'm not crazy, I know a lot more people around here prefer "Parade" and let's face it, we're the ones that will buy these deluxe treatments, not the general public. Just stay the hell away from the 90s and 2000s albums.

I haven't read through the whole thread so sorry if the points are repeated, but I loved it from the beginning. it was his most sophisticated work. I think both he and the album were loved in Europe more at that point than in the USA and Parade was definitely popular,. I used to call it Funk D'Azure (a nod to all those french riviera references from UTCM). He also toured and that kept the vibe going until SOTT. The 12"s and B sides were also spectacular. Definite peak period, no drop off, only a strengthening of his celebrity at least in the UK anyway from what I remember of the time.

The film however was panned by all media outlets (but of course I thought it great and that he was the next David Lynch or something like that! biggrin )

I always thought after Lovesexy failed to hit top 10 he turned his back somewhat on the more European tastes and tried to win back a core audience in the USA. Just my opinion.
