Once Upon A Time in Minneapolis

I searched the forum and didn't see a topic for this or notice it being discussed but I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled upon a (something like) 16 part documentary and whoever put it together (probably one of us) did a pretty good job. I don't think I'm allowed to link it here but it's easy to find.

Once Upon a Time in Minneapolis

It's a little too effects heavy for my taste, with a lot of video filters and shit, and that's probably to dance around copyrights but the person who created it did so with care, attention to detail, was clearly a fan and did a nice job splicing in interesting interviews from a wide variety of people across several years.

I think it's worth a look and it got me hyped for whatever is going on with the Netflix thing.

I think the series is fantastic. I like how he's splices the audio/video footage together without using the full songs (probably for copyright reasons)...Saw and heard some stuff I've never heard before (like the audio of Springsteen jamming with P).. Looking foward to the next episode.

Welp! Here it is.

I wonder which one of us made it? There's no way that person never posted or registered here at some point I wouldnt think but a search of the user name turns up zilch. I found the series strangely addicting and surprisingly professional for the most part.

I could have without so many graphics filters but I get why they did that. It makes everything seem timeless and disguises bad video quality along with giving the whole thing a consistent sense of style. I honestly think it raised the bar for whatever it is Netflix is attempting too since it's so in depth, thorough and quite good at tackling Prince and his friends chronologically with a minimum of bias.

It doesn't kiss his ass or waste time with slavish devotion or sugar coating so much as show who he was, who he became and how he did it and, conversely, I never got the sense they were shitting on him or anything either. It seemed honest and was obviously put together by a fan who knows thier shit.
