Does anyone know which album of his was Prince's Favorite?

This question popped up in my friends mind this evening when we decided to watch Prince's interview he did with Larry king.
They were answering questions from callers on air and some asked good questions, others ask some that have been asked before
One caller asks "so what do they call you now"?
That same question was asked on the oprah show
Anywho my buddy said he would have asked prince which album of his was his favorite.
I thought that was a damn good question.I dont think prince ever said which one he was most proud. If I am wrong on this please correct me

Also bonus question, what would you have asked prince back then?
Remember this goes back to december 1999

I'm guessing he didn't have a favorite album. I'm sure he looked at his discography differently than the way we do.

Bonus question: Will you please change your name back to Prince already!

I dont think he even thought SOTT was that great.

This is hard to answer, he usually got excited either about the latest one out he was promoting in the 80s and usually in the Warners dispute era, some album that he had finished but not released (eg: the Free the music, Gold Experience campaign of 94 and early 95).

It is hard to say without asking Prince himself - I guess he would like most of them up to 1999, after that being a JW he actively disowned a lot of his pre 1998 stuff due to all the sex and swearing and then by 2010 he had gotten over that and loved them all.

Judging by the songs he played at Piano and Microphone shows, I would say Sign o the Times and 1999 were up there. I don't think he was as crazy about Purple Rain as the album became a millstone around his neck and he wanted to be remembered for more than just that music and era.

Bonus answer: In December 1999, he was at least acknowledging "Prince" was around as he was the special guest producer on Rave. biggrin

I got plenty good loving for ya baby

Prince seems to have lived his life through his albums. He was always excited about his next piece of work and I understand this. He did go back and remaster Purple Rain though. I think that he may have been entering a reflective period when he died. So sad that he didn't have a chance to reflect on his legacy. There again, maybe he wasn't interested in reflection. He was always looking ahead to the next project. 😎✌❤

I don't think the answer for the fans, or for the press, would be anything but talking about his current work, or whatever he'd just released.

Seems like there are a lot of stories about him talking about his old work with reverence to associates, and like what he'd brag about or play for the collaborators around him was the same stuff the fans and critics held in high regard.

Even in interviews, when he talked about The Revolution, or SOTT, he would kind of talk in a hushed tone like he was talking about something important. You get the sense he regarded the early big fame years as spiritually guided.

Now the real question is what random ass song would he put on for like Hannah and Josh, and get all excited about that wasn't what we'd expect? I bet there are some.

There's two ways we'd expect it could go: Something like Take Me With You, or Make Up and he'd intellecutalize the hell out of it or something insufferable borderline like God that few people liked. The truth is probably neither, and we'd get a different answer depending on who we asked.

Did you ever pay attention?

E.g. when at a Prince concert?

What did he play in his last few years?

Most of the old stuff. (i.e.: 25 years or older at that time)

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yes he would usually play the hit songs but I figured that was because he thought that was what the fans wanted to hear.
I do like club Nokia show when he didn't play one hit.He played a whole set of rare stuff like "when the lights go down".

Just because he played the hits mostly, doesnt really mean be preferred the old stuff. There were times when he said he was gonna stop playing 1999 and Purple Rain

He said he rushed Parade. Imagine having so much good music in your discography that Parade is one that you don't really care for lol
