D&P sounds nothing like Dangerous. Not even close. However, I do remember reading a review of BOTD saying that Mike may have been inspired by Prince when he wrote Superfly Sister. The song was actually written by Bryan Loren though.

I kind of hear it and think that’s why I liked the album.

It's got the high production values a fan of MJ who doesn't know what Prince is about would be used to though. Especially if they're young and MJ has been their main introduction to pop music (a very common story in my experience)

Whats next Is it safe to say that Parade sounds like Led Zeppelin 3 lol

No, but Dangerous is MJ's attempt to copy his sister's success with Rhythm Nation 1812. Nothing more, nothing less. That's the real discussion.

i agree 100% ...and I can't believe this hasn't been up for discussion in the media before. It's an blatant ripoff actually. Sure, Teddy did his THE FUTURE sound quite remarkable in this release. But come on, it's totally Rhythm Nation 2.0

I like Dangerous but you're kidding yourself if you don't think the majority of it sounds pure 1991.

Regarding Dangerous and Diamonds And Pearl album the closest similarity to me is Gett Off and Jam. Both songs are what i like to call industrial funk. You know funk songs that incorporate elements of industrial music characterised with powerfull drum machine sound that have snare sound sounding like a glass smashing or some sounds you hear in factories.I think that Michael and Teddy Riley created new genre of funk music industrial funk and i think it started from their attempt to make new jack sound Michaels natural habitat. other examples of industrial funk by Michael Jackson are Ghosts,Scream. it's interesting that that new genre went unoticed.people connect it to new jack swing but it's not the same thing. btw do you guys know songs or artist who do this kind of industrial funk?

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but isn't industrial funk as you call it just a thicker layered version of new jack swing, kind of what shoegaze is to dream pop? (...hang on, they are 2 separate genres come to think) The world's problems like climate change can only be solved through strategic long-term thinking, not expediency. In other words all the govts. need sacking!

Ugh. Go home. The song "7" , all by it's lonesome self, is more of an anthemic genius of a song than any of these.
- I mean, I loooooooove Michael Jackson*, but you are way overstating things here. Teddy Riley's version of Michael Jackson is NOT where it's at. - Plus, you ever notice that "Why You Wanna trip on me" is a straight up zombie clone of Batdance's funk?
* Who is it: The best of these songs. Still MJ trying to recapture that Billie Jean magic and the exact same thematically with the lyrics. - In the Closet. Cringey. Did MJ even know what "In the closet" meant? Either he outsmarted himself, or he was impossibly naieve. The video makes it worse. It's not sexy, it's MJ fake posturing, and kinda creepy. - Will You be there: Ugh. Smalzy and another stab at the same old "We are the world" "Man in the mirror" thing that he just kept repeating. The album version is the worst went he does his woe is me poem at the end and fake cries (again). - Give in to me. Again, repeating himself. Dirty Diana part 2, any one? MJ formula: Hire the "hip" rock guitar player at the time and do some rock and roll posturing.
-
Don't get me wrong. I actually like these songs. Yet, they are MJ doing the same ol' thing and they are not the songs I'd hold up as being "great." I sure as hell wouldn't make the claim that they were better than any thing on Diamonds and Pearls and . - I mean, Prince gets accused for chasing trends with some of the stuff on these albums, but at least he wasn't still using his same old tired formula and "hot" producers and passing them off as "new." [Edited 1/8/21 13:41pm] [Edited 1/8/21 13:41pm] "New Power slide...."
