Tracked Lovesexy on Spotify

idk if this is a known thing since I haven't been paying close attention, but the tracked version of Lovesexy is now on Spotify and says "NPG Records Inc. under exclusive license to Legacy Recordings". The one-track version is still up and says "under exclusive license to WBR". Is Lovesexy the next Sony release, is it a mistaken posting, or is it just a nice thing Spotify has done?

Just off the top of my head, the tracked Lovesexy is the German release. So maybe it's the Euro version that is licensed to Legacy. Yes, it's the same songs, but it being tracked or not makes it a different version of the album, so that could be a distinction here.

I actually have a tracked version of the CD made for radio, that has a fade (often unnecessary) at the end of each song. Promo type copy, I guess.

On free Spotify, I'd actually prefer to untracked version so there are no commercials interrupting my flow. haha

? Don't really get your question but I own both tracked and one track versions of the Lovesexy CD that I bought years ago.

The one-track is the typical version. The Track was unique to certain countries. The OP is asking why the tracked version - aka the unique and rare version - is on Spotify, instead of just the default one-track version. It does seem odd.

I’m in the US. The question is just that the tracked version wasn’t on Spotify or Apple Music (fairly certain though I could be wrong) before and now it’s popped up. Wondering if they put the German release on there and/or if it’s a hint toward a reissue of the album by Sony.

I just looked. I see both versions in the U.S., just as described by the OP. Tres interesting.

Never heard of that version.

Are you sure it was sort of a legal release ?

Very interesting.

Cause it seems it only ever happenend with this album ?

And for instance not with ''The Rainbow Children'' ?

This is the official 1988 tracked DJ promo CD for the radio with the fade outs on each track: https://www.discogs.com/P...se/8557592

The official promo CD's (not the stamped or cut out ones) that were used for the WB press kit and press sessions were tracked.

The original releaes were all 1 track and later (since at least around 1994) in the US and EUR a tracked reissue was released, I bought a tracked version in 1994 together with Come on release day.

Lovesexy has been missing from Apple Music Canada for a while now.

What a very clever deduction the OP made : Lovesexy is the next Sony release. Surely along Crystal Ball and the Black Album. And who cares if WB has the rights to it?

There will be :

Yep, that's the one. I have my whole collection on Discogs, and checked to see if it was, and that's it.

To Vannormal, it's very much legal. There'd be no reason to do it for TRC cuz no one wanted to play that ish on the radio! (THERE, I SAID IT! lol)

I think it just means Sony knows the catalogue well enough to realize WB had uploaded the 1 track version to streaming platforms, which is ridiculous in terms of modern audiences and how streaming works, so their first logical move was to add the tracked version to increase listens. I wouldn't read much more into this.

Still not on my Spotify, hopefully they'll get to Europe. I have only ever had the tracked CD but I suppose when you think about it the one-track on Spotify is more in line with what Prince wanted.

(Not that it was in any way intentional I know, it was just a dump of his stuff onto streaming in whatever way it was organized)

Where do you think the source of the stream comes from?

Streaming is an idea based on the ubiquity of 'internet'.

Streaming is an idea based on the ubiquity of 'content'.

One or even both might be untrue sometime.

With my turntalbe I sometimes accelerate that annoying low pitched voice at the 45rpm speed,

and it works better for me.

As I come to think of it, I'm can do that with software too.

Stupid me, that i didn't considder that before. wink

That would be a waste of plastic to have tracked and untracked.
If you want to listen in one sequence, just dont change the track. Simple.
No one needs both versions.
As for black album, that deserves it's own separate release.
It is not from the same sessions.
He performed it in part on the 88 tour, but he performed lots of songs from earlier albums too.
Why fans want them packaged together is just weird

The untracked lovesexy was always a gimmick or just uneccesary
The songs arent even a suite!

Well, I don't fully agree.

(I somehow understand what RODSERLING says.)

-

I respect Prince's choice.

It was somehow daring at the time too tbh, don't forget that.

And I will ALWAYS listen to that album from start to finish.

It is my favorite album!

I hate to cut up albums anyways.

That's not what they were made for I believe.

But I respect those who like to do it.

And you can't hold back those who will.

And sure I'm glad too the tracked version is availalbe.

Who am I to say what other people should do or not.

wink

-

The interesting thing with releasing both 'The Black Album' together with 'Lovesexy' would present the fact that Prince struggled with a lot of issues.

Yes they are absolutely different recordings and projects.

But, the era both were created in back to back is so important.

Just the way he performed it live, as the first bad part and the good second part.

So he actually played three tracks form TBA live in that Lovesexy tour.

Both these albums have so much more in common then one might think.

Together these albums epitomize the struggle he waged within himself.

The interesting story of a bad trip, for example.

His own interpretation and solution to answer the held back release of TBA with a faith-drenched Lovesexy as his solution and antidote to his own state of mind.

So from that humble point of view I do believe these albums are very important as a duo/duel.

Wouldn't that just be a great Box Set ?

-

Question; is 'The Black Album' still the most bootlegged album?

And if so, is this still known among as such amongst the majority of music lovers ?

Cause time goes by...

don't be a tool. well, might be a bit late for that. i've known a tracked version exists for decades. i didn't care enough to order it from abroad. when i've wanted to listen to individual tracks, there have been other options. i'm glad streaming is now one of them!

Yeah, it would be utterly ridiculous to put both CDs. Indeed, having the tracked version doesn't prevent anyone to listen to the whole record in one take. People have the funniest ideas.

It is another form of instant gratification of this age.

Not going up to the room where you stored these discs, finding the right disc, turning on the stereo equipment, playing the disc, etc.

Let's see in a few years.
