First version of big tall wall is great Version 2 has the bad vibes, not fitting to this song.

Too repetitive and a bit weak for my tastes.
It is actually the only outtake I dont care for out of the entire SOTT deluxe set but glad you like it. [Edited 12/28/20 21:44pm]

Version #2 Big Tall Wall aka the stripped version has always been fire. Version #1 is just a different type of sound as it's bouncy/vibrant whereas Version#2 is straight raw funk. __________________________________________________

- "Un Français" ou "une Française" ? Ou avez-vous une histoire de 'gender' que vous souhaitez nous clarifier? LOL Sorry for being such a language prick. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves.

- And I'll do that with love and respect, cher Français. No Big Tall Walls up in here. - By the way, indeed that first versions knocked me of my knees. I still find it hard to get into the known sparse version. But I'm so use to it now, I even start to sing along. But that first version is bizarre enough a super happy sounding killer. Love that duality. - [Edited 1/2/21 14:55pm] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves.

#2 Big Tall Wall is wank. There's no harmony, a viewpoint with which any fellow musicologist would concur. #1 however is fine and a unique P song.

The 60s style version sucks. The drum machine version rules. That's it

I like both. I had heard a fuzzy boot of version 2 years ago and I'm glad to have it in pristine quality now. Version one surprised me in how different it was. They really are polar opposite and depending on my mood I'll go with either or.

- I afree. - RJOrion, Really ? Is there a need to divide a song amongst skin colours? LOL You know, I absolutely don't believe in white and I don't believe in black. I believe in Prince fans going bananas on his tunes, and I do believe firmly in all creatures who love music, squirrels, dogs, pigs and humans!
Much needed peace to us all. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves.

- Wait ! Me too ! - The reason why #2 is good is because indeed there is no harmony, it IS cold brecause the lyrics are much harder to grasp with that repeating drumbeat, nearly annoying, but very driven. While in #1 these same lyrics sound rather cynical due to the bright and colourful melodies. - [Edited 1/5/21 13:14pm] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves.

Much needed peace to us all. - its no secret that black people and white people hear and react to music differently... a fact not lost on record makers, distributors, labels and radio stations and club owners... so while the whole "we are all created equal" rhetoric is quite cute for mass public assumption, its far from the actual truth... Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder BOTH could see that [Edited 1/5/21 13:46pm]

Someone else said it better, but it's more a case of Prince scrubbing the high romance and frolicking aspects from some of his Susannah songs (ie Forever in my life, big tall wall, tbodp). Tbh I find it really hard to get into the first version. I ain't black.
