Absolutely - The extended version is where it's at!

It really is.

And the low quality acoustic demo sung in falsetto is haunting. Hope we can get a better quality one day.

I like a lot of what he did with the extended version, but I prefer the acoustic demo in many ways. The released version feels massively over embellished by comparison. It's closer to the emotional essence of the song for me.

Yay or Nay?

I hate it. From the moment I first heard it and I still can't bear to hear it.

the extended version is just another padded out 12" version and unnecessary

but the album version is a classic, yes.

I would argue the exact opposite is true. The album version is just a generic song that doesn't go anywhere. I never listen it.

Where the song truly becomes great is after it fades on the album. It becomes almost an entirely different song. It's not padded -- it's not repeating parts present in the album version. It's adding whole new musical elements. And the passion he sings with is ramped up exponentially.

I mean, it's a good pop song.
The extended jam is fine, but it's more the mind of thing that's better live.
I'm a believer in concision and perfect pop singles where every moment counts and no space is wasted or unnecessary

Yep. Still spun the extended version after all these years.

Indeed, the extended version/music video is awesome. What about the live version ? Brilliant !
Yes, the live version mixed with It from the D&P tour was stunning

Classic stunning unique Prince, accept no substitute.

The live version with the IT accoustic section (Forever in my life style) with the verse from Sexy Mother Fucker thrown in and a violin section (sampled I guess) is AMAZING

Enjoy the album version and appreciate the remixes.

And don't sleep on the video which has some amazing choreography.

The songs gels perfectly with question of U and Joy of Repetition in terms of creating a sonic blend for the album Graffiti Bridge

Unique. Classic. One of the Last Great Xtendeds.

I've been saying this for years. Along with the extended version of Thieves and Eye Wish U Heaven, for me, were the two best issued singles in Prince's career. So much so I have them both in multiple formats.

Album version: Not especially.

Love the tune, especially the extended mix as well as the acoustic versions he would do live where he would bust out an acoustic guitar solo at the end

"You said I was your man!"
(Thieves in the temple)
(Love come quick)
"But they were lies! Lies!"
