the books in the 1999 and Sign deluxe editions What's your opinion on them? Do they offer new information? Are they more like picture books? Or are they nice retelling of stuff everybody already knows? | |

Would rather have done without the elaborate SOTT book (which I flicked through once and didn't read) and have £50 off the retail price. I'm here for the music and the music only. |

Essential for Duane Tudahl's notes, and the other text is welcome, but yeah the SOTT book really goes overboard with the photos. Too high a price, too much weight. |

The 1999 book is really interesting. The SOTT book is too ufocused on the era. . Both are disappointing in the fsct the lyrics are ot printed. But in the book it boast about how great they are |

No one actually needs a book though, the 1999 booklet was fine., and did more justice than the million essays in the sott book. The sott essays were a mixed bag. Some of them didnt belong in the book, they should have been in magazines or websites, not in a book for posterity. |

- Agree on this one. Agree with Laytonian, text in colour on colour is not that easy to read. Duane Tudahl should've gotten more space in that book. I also woul've prefered pictures of the studios where he recorded these songs... Pictures of the reels are nice, nut I'm sure there is more personal stuff from these era to be found and put up in picutres with detailed info. Like a close up of his guitars used on these tracksl or whatever... Could be very nice. Recording sheets etc... Nots to Susan Rogers or whomever... things like that. I'm alwyas in for a more doucumented book, cause it makes you get the feel of the recording of that album. As if you can dive into that. I love listening to my vinyls and sniff the cover, the inner sleeve, read everything that's on it... freakish!

I loved both of them but I wish they had been reversed. I wish "1999" had been the large book and "Sign O The Times" had been the CD sized booklet. With the earlier years through "Purple Rain", and especially "Dirty Mind", "Controversy", and "1999", I love every aspect of those eras so I want as many pictures, info, etc. to go along with it. With "Around The World In A Day" through "Batman", I love the pictures and info but am satisfied with a CD sized booklet. And anything after the 1980s, I could care less and that includes a lot of the music also. . I'm with the others though that had the complaint about the color scheme of the text. It was very hard on the eyes. Andy is a four letter word. | |
