Your most embarrassing moments as a Prince fan?

I love prince and his music. But there have been times I have been made fun of and picked on just for being a prince fan
There were times I was actually able to prove some of these people wrong and convert them to prince fans.I guess they judged a book by its cover

What are some memories you all have that are kinda embarrassing or cringeworthy that are prince related?
One memory is my father bought a new car and I had the black album cd in the car stereo. My uncle got inside of the car to see how it looked then he messed with the stereo."Rockhard in a funky place" came on as soon as he did and he said who in the hell had this car before you?

Oh easily the time BBC Radio 1 picked me to represent Prince fans in a trivia battle against a Brittney Speara fan. I lost.

The only thing I remember that used to be embarrassing to me as a Prince fan, was back in the day when we had cassette players, and I used to be listening to Prince, and a song would come up that I didn't want my parents to hear, like Head or Do Me Baby, or something else with Prince moaning sexually, and you couldn't just skip over the song like you could later with a CD player, so I had to keep hitting the fast forward button trying to skip over the bad parts, or skip the song completely. For some reason, I didn't have headphones back then, I just used to blast the music. Headphones probably would have made things a lot easier for me, and less embarrassing. lol That's really the only thing that embarrassed me. I got the usual "what in the world do you see in Prince, and why do you like Prince?" questions, and people thinking I was strange because I did, but that didn't embarrass me.

I can relate to that. I would proudly announce my prince fandom and they would look at me like I was crazy. Then I would show them "while my guitar gently weeps" performance and let them hear songs like irresistible bitch and then they would see how awesome he was.But now since he has passed it seems it's great to like prince again
I am confused by that because I feel prince didn't get all the respect he deserved when he was alive but only when he has passed away you see all these tributes, stories from celebrities on talk shows, etc.

Still better than having Come in your car stereo with Orgasm coming on.

.

In that line of thoughts, the only thing I really found embarrassing was when people tended to label me as a Prince fan, as in "someone who only listens to Prince", when I in fact always listened to many other artists.

.

The chemtrails episode was somewhat embarrassing, too, but thanks God this particular interview wasn't aired in France so no one I knew could give me shit about that one lol

Ouch, that must have been embarrassing AF! lol

I imagine you probably hyped Prince before actually listening to the album, and then you exposed them to that hot mess of an album called "Rave". Let's be honest here, you can't really blame them for not contacting you again, LOL! lol lol lol wink

As far as my own embarrassing moments as a Prince fan, I started to get slightly embarrassed by Prince in the 90's:

- his battle against WB didn't make a whole lot of sense back then and friends who knew I was heavily into Prince asked me about it, as they thought he had lost the plot.

- his albums becoming spottier album after album. Where his worst songs were still kinda OK in the eighties, in the nineties his worst songs became intolerable and full on embarrassing. I started to listen to his new albums in private first, knowing there would likely be really bad, embarrassing stuff on them.

- his inability to adapt to the times image wise, and tone down the makeup and extravagant clothes.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Naked prince in the 80s makes me blush, especially lovesexy and the rolling stone one with armpit hair

Most embarrassing incident was when I blasted Housequake while hanging out at the track meet in high school, and somebody said What Is That?! because of the Camile voice. (My quotation marks button isn’t working.) But my Friends there were also prince fans, so I Chyna solidified our bond a bit.

And the whole Kevin Smith thing. And 20Ten being given out free in newspapers where I live. Knowing people had more access to that garbage than any of his better stuff was a tough one.

Nope! I was 14 and my mom wouldn't take me to the theater to see it, so later on in 84 she rented it. Didn't make sense to me why that was better for her lol. I wanted to get up and leave during that scene but I was frozen from embarrassment.

Lovesexy tourbook was indeed embarrassing, especially the cover. But the album cover, oh lawd I used up a lot of batteries on that.

Buying the Rainbow Children was one of the times I was proudest to be a Prince fan. After his sinking to an all-time low with the cheesy, over-produced, sad attempt at pop music (Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic), I loved having him put out an album that showed what he was capable of musically. I know the lyrics aren't everyone's cup of tea (nor are they mine), but the music is genuis.

The time I was most embarassed to be a Prince fan was when he changed his name to a symbol. I was teased merciliessly about that. And I had no good comeback. I realize after he passed there was some retrospective (perhaps even revisitionist) history where people called him a hero for doing that, finally understanding that he was fighting for the rights of recording artists. But at the time he changed his name, few people really got it.
