Is this the way to payback Prince? This is just my honest opinion.Prince offered Larry Graham to open for him on some of the 1997 Jam Of The Year gigs. Those concerts got a washed up funk legend Larry Graham playing in front of the largest crowd in decades. Before Prince invited Larry played on small festival ,Casinos.People had long forgot about him.Suddenly he gets his career revived ,gets an offer to relocate to Chanhassen and live in Prince's guest house. His career gets revived and what that guy does?During the Face Down performances he starts leaving concerts. When Prince asked why,Larry starts preaching Prince about cursing on stage and in songs.remember he knew what Princes music was about.Prince start censor himself soon after.Becausr Mayte was not into Witness doctrine Larry encourige Prince to distance himself from his wife and the worst thing ,when Prince needed help i don't think Larry said to Prince:Fu.k this bro ,you should get that surgery . Prince had a need for Larry or someone like him He could have parted ways But he was at a point I think when he needed a father figure or mentor figure Unfortunately it was Larry but nonetheless the need I think was so great prince would have done anything to belong and not upset Larry He wanted to be a good witness

Well, not to put anyone's chastity belt in a knot, but religious people are on a different wavelength. They think god heals people, lol. Or if he doesn't that it was his choice to make them suffer and then die to be with him <3

Prince asked him to move to Chanhassen. Prince was interested in what Larry was saying and wanted to hang out with a legend from his childhood. . Larry turned a blind eye to alot of things but he wasn't comfortable during Face Down and his family would leave. That was something Prince encouraged. There's number of bootlegs where he tell people to go stand in the parking lot if they don't like what he's doing. . Then Prince decided that Larry had a valid point and changed. Prince's decision. . Larry Graham is a easy scapegoat but Prince was his own man and Larry didn't need Prince to revive his career. The guy lives a very modest life and he wasn't dumb with his money.

Prince is gone, those "negative things that were going around" are long over, and gone as well. Prince's involvement with Larry Graham at one time in his life, was his business, but that time is no more, so I don't get the point of even bringing that stuff up again. What will that solve by doing so? It's only negativity, and there's so much more good things, positive things, about Prince that we can talk about, reminisce about. Haven't we all had enough of the negative?

Idk, the story itself is over 20 yeras old and the concept of "payback" is moot IMO because these are two people with two different minds, beliefs, and ways to live life that came together. It is a personal relationship much more intricate than the concept of "I owe you one" [Edited 11/6/20 14:08pm]

First off, pretty sure it was Prince who felt like he was paying Larry back.

I respect his earlier contributions to music, but Larry was (is?) a jackass who helped to pull Prince into some weird, cult-like shit. His nephew sucks, too.

What got me the most about LG was the video & performances for the song Baby Knows with P. LG is supposed to be a religious, faithful, married man and he's up on stage singing: She got the long dark legs (Baby knows) She got the butt that go round (Baby knows) This kind of poochie make you beg (Baby knows) Turn a dog into a hound She tell me what I want to hear (Baby knows) She stroke me up and never down (Baby knows) Whispering sexiness in my ear (Baby knows) I'm just a junkie for the sound. At the time I think P was looking for answers due to his son's death & a later miscarriage and LG seemed to have them. P was the one who made the decision to give him a house, etc but I do think LG, consciously or not, took advantage of P & definitely factored in his divorce & second marriage. The kind of love that takes over your body, mind, & soul

You are right and thats not the only risquier song that he added bass and back vocals. And 1 of the songs from his album have a drum sample from Billy Jack Bitch and the credit is on GCS album credits i think. But Prince was a grown man, capable of making his own decisions. No one forced him into any kind of relationship with Larry, and I'm sure, didn't make Prince do anything that he himself didn't want to do. If Prince didn't want Larry in his life, Larry wouldn't have been in his life, period!

Yep, that seems to be valid. I recommend Mayte's book for het inside view about this and her feeling toward this.

If the stories around the time are true of where P was at mentally [overdose on pills/wine - we all know THAT 'story' right?] then I truly believe that LG put P on a safer pather & refocussed him. Now, we can argue until the cows home about P's involvemnet in the JWs, the clean up of his lyrics, his outlook etc BUT LG at that point may well have saved P's life. Looks like they had a falling out though around 2015/16 - did I read that P felt LG was lazy & just coasting on P's generosity?
When will LG pop up with his side?...

I prefer to look at it this way. Larry stood up for what he believed in by leaving at those certain points he didnt want to be part of. I personally think Prince would respect that. as a grown man can, Prince made his own choice to follow Larry's beliefs. end of story. get over it.

Prince looked up to Larry @ the time. He over-did his admiration a bit, but that was Prince...an 'all-in' kinda guy.

It might be tame considering his earlier albums & songs but ask any JW if they think it's ok for a married JW man to sing these lyrics in public. Most wouldn't allow it if the man was single. The kind of love that takes over your body, mind, & soul
