I beg to differ, it deserved a spot in the SOTT album, is much better than It (as much as I like), Hot Thing and Slow Love.

As a man of massive talent, I'd guess Jesse had the ability to bring out a very aggressive side of Prince's competitive nature. To Prince's credit, he acknowledged (on Tavis Smiley show) that his competitive side could be a destructive influence. I don't know that I'd ever be up to acknowledging some of the more troubling forces in my nature, so publicly and humbly as P did on the Tavis how. That impressed me. Luckily, utterly unlike Prince, I'm of zero public fascination...so I'll never have to take that challenge. : )

Add that to Prince's seemingly not wanting many people to suggest anything about leaving Princeworld under their own intitiative, and wow, it might be a lot.

Can't remember the more specific details that I once heard in an interview with Jesse. Though I was laughing in above comment about the witchy song irony, it's sad, IMO.

Prince did huge acts of generosity, but to me this sort of thing is like an alter ego's lazy, easy opposite to the generosity. I imagine others rightfully being plenty angry at P in this mode. I've even heard interviews where musicians said that after they left the purple world, P pulled strings to further harm their efforts.

Stuff like what P chose to do with Shockadelica and Jesse...my guess is that in the big picture and long run, these choices hurt all involved, including P himself.

STELLAR Shockadelica song, though! A friend of mine had a couple of "petty Prince" playlists dedicated to when P released music in "petty mode." Given that P also released stuff like F.U.N.K. in this mode, this side of Prince sure did lead to release of some great music!

Alphastreet -- love the questions you post.

SquirrelMeat -- from your posts over the years, it seems like you are a long-time massive fan of Prince music. I could describe how I might imagine the Lovesexy tourbook description of Camille to connect with the Shockadelica song mention of Camille, but can I ask for your thoughts? Beginning lines of Lovesexy tourbook's Camille essay are in graphic below.

"The lights go out
The smell of doom
Is creepin' n2 ur lonely room
The bed's on fire
Ur fate is sealed
& U'r so tired
& the reason is Camille"

What I heard was that Jesse was about to release an album called Shockadelica. Prince might have liked the album but did not think Jesse had a strong lead song or a single.

The part I do not understand is why he felt the need to release his own single, Shockedelica, before Jesse released his album, making it look as though Jesse 'copied' the name of his album from Prince, thereby embarrassing Jesse.

Actually, you don't. I greatly respect your Princeworld knowledge and perspective, but you DON'T KNOW WHAT'S UP WITH ME. I have OCD. I had no intention of purposefully diluting someone's comments. For me, OCD means being terrified to offend someone. I wouldn't have a millionth of the balls it would take to purposefully dilute someone's comment.

I dilute my OWN thoughts, and that's screwed up, but it's NOT what you think. You don't know me, and though I don't have much confidence, I do have enough confidence to see that you have made and stated wide, confident generalizations about some other Orgers. I was adding the tempered Prince-related thoughts to MY thoughts. NOTHING to do with me thinking of your thoughts as lacking, and nothing to do with having any interest in diluting or otherwise fixing YOUR thoughts.

I know you meant serious shit by "messin." My strategy here at the Org is not to be as critical of P as my first thoughts might be in my head because I think that's the only chance of engaging with more than just a very few. You undoubtedly completely disagree, but my comments reflect my screwed-up strategy of tempering...not anything about you, or trying to mess with you being you.

This, of course, is one of the big problems with social media.

Especially for sensitive people. We let ourselves get hurt by people we don't even know. And that's MY sensitive fault. NOTHING to do with your fault.

Despite having attended one of those elite colleges you've discussed as offering opportunities, I have trouble putting my thoughts together in writing (endless edits, etc.), and I can easily manage to say something I never intended, having no idea how what I said sounds or what somebody might make of it. It's easy to leave an impression in something said/written that was never intended. I NEVER intended to suggest that you were exaggerating the nefariousness of anything P-related. I apologize if I was clueless in this instance, but because you see a pattern of me "diminishing" or "diluting" YOU in particular, I don't think there's anything to salvage here.

And one little detail: you most recently replied to me (above), so forgive me for thinking you might want to engage with me (warts and all) in that particular instance. You can reply to someone else, or post an independent comment not in the form of a reply to anyone in particular.

I now see that you may have tried to contact me about some big annoyance you had with me, and may have sent your Orgnote to RednBlue (not me) instead of rednblue, so I had no idea. And if I were THAT big of an annoyance to have garnered so much of your disdain, I have to (hopefully somewhat gently) say that it should have been worth it to take care to send the Orgnote to the correct person, i.e. correctly spelled and capitalized...if that in fact is what happened.

I won't ever reply to a comment of yours again, but I'll leave you with this...

You might be right about P's illness. Who knows? But I don't think MB had anything to do with the Prince estate. I think (my GUESS) is that he probably is tired of what he finds to be a lot of disrespect for black men. He readily believes the people who say Prince's dad supported the family at a certain level after he left rather than believe the people who say P's mom had to struggle relatively more. He says Prince's dad probably helped pay for Prince's mom to go back to school. I personally say I don't know, but he doesn't know either, yet chooses to say he does know that P's dad did more and gets offended at those who say P's mom did more.

I've noticed you tend to get ticked off at people who are wired a little "unusually" (as Cyndi Lauper might say), and you sometimes ask these types (like me) for a wider berth. I'm sure you remember purplerabbithole/skipperlove. You once praised her writing, but that was soon over...

You've complained here about wordy people making threads too cluttered and exhausting for you through their writing. You've described your annoyance at other people's writing it in a way akin to that. I GREATLY admire your writing skill and succinctness. Truly. But there is no requirement here for less able and wordier writers like me to be babysat.

I don't know much about various platforms, but if you want people to be babysat if they exceed certain small character or word limits, maybe try Twitter?

Don't worry, I won't further go near the ocean of you or any other very well-adjusted soul who wants the annoying eccentrics out of the way. Purplerabbithole had the right idea by realizing she did have something to offer, and taking it elsewhere. I've never spoken to her by the way. This is all just from my observation.

If I don't reply to you, which I won't, please remember that the issue of my thoughts may have nothing to do with you. And, as you've pointed out, I am allowed to have MY opinions, and I'm also allowed to have my (warts and all) way of writing, so please leave all of this alone and don't relate any of it to you if I don't reply to you.

Thanks in advance!

Jesse was pissed about this.I recall a late-1986 interview where he totally trashed Prince."He's a bigger artist than I am",Jesse said."He has a huge audience. If he puts out that song,it will look like I copied him."

I returned to this thread because I realized I needed to clarify that I have always only been Erica from Maryland, also that I have only ever had one (rednblue) username on the Org, and that I have not exchanged a single Orgnote or had any other interactions with purplerabbithole/skipperlove.

Sure enough, I did have to make this clear.

My memory is like a sieve for many things, but I remember people's interactions very well. Biology/psychology major and all. NOTHING SPECIFIC ABOUT REMEMBERING INTERACTIONS INVOLVING ANY ONE PERSON.

The number one thing I love about Prince's music is how he writes and sings about people.

Including alter egos, persona, etc. connected to himself, but I have no connection to purple/skipper other than that I enjoyed reading what she wrote. Same as with so many others here. I'm not even sure rabbit and skipper were the same person, to be honest. They were both wordy writers with characteristics that irritated you. But I can't remember why I have the conclusive idea they were the same person.

I often disagreed with purple/skipper.

But I enjoyed reading her posts. Some people, to include skipper and me, tend to be wordy. I admire good writers, and wish I was a better writer.

It is a relief to know what I know about me (and that rednblue is just me, one poster), and by extension, what I can absolutely, confidently conclude about THIS particular interaction.

News to me. Please consult the mods. Maybe they can tell if someone is able to (and does) orgnote using another person's (not their own) username. I don't know if they can, but maybe they can. Also, you can get an orgnote saying an orgnote is read by someone. That orgnote contains that person's name but is not from that person. It's from something like Orgadmin, I think.

News to me. Please consult the mods. Maybe they can tell if someone is able to (and does) orgnote using another person's (not their own) username. I don't know if they can, but maybe they can. I called you out on our orgnote discussions. I have copies of the discussions we had.
