Slow Love cowriter recalls Prince’s creationist tantrum in natural history museum Carole Davis recalls Prince’s inability to accept the truth of natural history. He wasn’t able to tolerate an unapologetic atheist.

Thanks a lot for sharing this very interesting video. I wasn´t familiar with sentientism. I have friends who share views that are very familiar to some of Prince´s beliefs. I doubt that this lady´s secular beliefs really were the reason why Prince didn´t write more songs with her because we all know how mercurial he was but it´s interesting how such drastically different views can lead to relationship problems or intercultural problems. Prince really had some strange opinions and beliefs sometimes but it never really bothered me except for a few instances. I often wonder if being more secular and rational would have cost him fans or maybe even increased his fanbase.I ´d say the latter but I´m not sure. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

She mentions a lot of things that Prince and her would have agreed on, such as environmental issues, veganism and animal cruelty. And yet her more rational beliefs and Prince´s religious beliefs were like a chasm between them. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Prince could be rather partiarchal and though, he had some appreciation of femininity; he could be rather misogynistic. I would say she was referring to the celebrity misuse of power and ensuing harm, as an example. Atheism has nothing to do with morality or proper treatment of sentient beings. Many 'God-fearing' humans have mistreated other sentient beings. Sensitive treatment of others over-rides belief in God.
I also want to say that Prince was not exposed to the study of philosophy, religion, history, museums etc. He was largely self-taught and did not have exposure to a liberal arts education which often helps to contextualize and broaden a world view.

When it came to religion Prince not only talked the talk, he walked the walk.

Sure, depending on his reading of the scriptures that year. And saying someone ‘walked the walk’ with regards to their religious beliefs is as far from complimentary as I can imagine. And not true. After his hip surgery did he go out and sacrifice a goat? No? Selective reading then. EDIT: A vegan in a religion based on animal sacrifice kinda sums Prince up when it came to his religious / philosophical views. Thankfully, as I’ve stated on here several times, he came across like such a clown there was no danger of any of these beliefs taking hold amongst his fans. For his collaborators, there was a fine line to walk. And although I agree with the above that this woman might have been let go regardless, it sure helped a few of them hang on in there with him longer. [Edited 11/3/20 1:33am]

Just out of curiosity.....are you referring to the JWs or Judaism ? Because I didn´t know that those religions require animal sacrifices, which I only know as a tradition in Islam. Does the Bible, or rather, the New Testament, mention animal sacrifices ? . I agree with you. I think if we took every scripture of every religion seriously in this day and age we´d be shocked to see how cruel religions can be when scripture is taken verbatim. The reason why we don´t see more bloodshed than we´re already seeing is that most followers of religion(s) don´t fully practice their respective religions but rather an updated, "light" or decaf version of it. Animal Sacrifice is to the Old Testament what Kung Fu is to Bruce Lee movies. It’s wacked out madness beyond belief. But for a Vegan who wrote Animal Kingdom? But it’s not just the olde stuff. Even Jesus wouldn’t help you without asking you to pay a voodoo toll of vicious animal sacrifice. Here is Mark Chapter 1. Jesus Heals a Man With Leprosy(AY) 40 A man with leprosy[h] came to him and begged him on his knees,(AZ) “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” 41 Jesus was indignant.[i] He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” 42 Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. 43 Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: 44 “See that you don’t tell this to anyone.(BA) But go, show yourself to the priest(BB) and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing,(BC) as a testimony to them.” What Jesus is referring to comes from Leviticus. Here it is. How enlightened does Jesus (or Prince) sound now? Cleansing From Defiling Skin Diseases 14 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “These are the regulations for any diseased person at the time of their ceremonial cleansing, when they are brought to the priest: 3 The priest is to go outside the camp and examine them. If they have been healed of their defiling skin disease,[a] 4 the priest shall order that two live clean birds and some cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop be brought for the person to be cleansed. 5 Then the priest shall order that one of the birds be killed over fresh water in a clay pot. 6 He is then to take the live bird and dip it, together with the cedar wood, the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, into the blood of the bird that was killed over the fresh water. 7 Seven times he shall sprinkle the one to be cleansed of the defiling disease, and then pronounce them clean. After that, he is to release the live bird in the open fields. 8 “The person to be cleansed must wash their clothes, shave off all their hair and bathe with water; then they will be ceremonially clean. After this they may come into the camp, but they must stay outside their tent for seven days. 9 On the seventh day they must shave off all their hair; they must shave their head, their beard, their eyebrows and the rest of their hair. They must wash their clothes and bathe themselves with water, and they will be clean. 10 “On the eighth day they must bring two male lambs and one ewe lamb a year old, each without defect, along with three-tenths of an ephah[b] of the finest flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, and one log[c] of oil. 11 The priest who pronounces them clean shall present both the one to be cleansed and their offerings before the Lord at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 12 “Then the priest is to take one of the male lambs and offer it as a guilt offering, along with the log of oil; he shall wave them before the Lord as a wave offering. 13 He is to slaughter the lamb in the sanctuary area where the sin offering[d] and the burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy. 14 The priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot. 15 The priest shall then take some of the log of oil, pour it in the palm of his own left hand, 16 dip his right forefinger into the oil in his palm, and with his finger sprinkle some of it before the Lord seven times. 17 The priest is to put some of the oil remaining in his palm on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot, on top of the blood of the guilt offering. 18 The rest of the oil in his palm the priest shall put on the head of the one to be cleansed and make atonement for them before the Lord. 19 “Then the priest is to sacrifice the sin offering and make atonement for the one to be cleansed from their uncleanness. After that, the priest shall slaughter the burnt offering 20 and offer it on the altar, together with the grain offering, and make atonement for them, and they will be clean. 21 “If, however, they are poor and cannot afford these, they must take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for them, together with a tenth of an ephah[e] of the finest flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of oil, 22 and two doves or two young pigeons, such as they can afford, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. 23 “On the eighth day they must bring them for their cleansing to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting, before the Lord. 24 The priest is to take the lamb for the guilt offering, together with the log of oil, and wave them before the Lord as a wave offering. 25 He shall slaughter the lamb for the guilt offering and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot. 26 The priest is to pour some of the oil into the palm of his own left hand, 27 and with his right forefinger sprinkle some of the oil from his palm seven times before the Lord. 28 Some of the oil in his palm he is to put on the same places he put the blood of the guilt offering—on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of their right hand and on the big toe of their right foot. 29 The rest of the oil in his palm the priest shall put on the head of the one to be cleansed, to make atonement for them before the Lord. 30 Then he shall sacrifice the doves or the young pigeons, such as the person can afford, 31 one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, together with the grain offering. In this way the priest will make atonement before the Lord on behalf of the one to be cleansed.” 32 These are the regulations for anyone who has a defiling skin disease and who cannot afford the regular offerings for their cleansing.

I don't know about other countries, but in Holland there is a law that says animals have to be sedated before slaughtering, but, because of the freedom of religion, muslims and jews are excepted so they can still have their halal and kosher meat. If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

Anyway, you join quite the historical Rogue’s Gallery with your ‘you don’t understand scripture’ quote, so well done. There *is* no understanding needed beyond the quotes. But I take it you’re about to explain to us why god needed animals sacrificed and then blood rituals performed just for folks with psoriasis. Or did he ask for all of that just for a giggle? Why was Jesus so hot for it? Are you about to tell us this human sacrifice meant the end to the smaller sacrifices? You got a quote for that? You annoyed the human sacrifice turned out not to be real even within the book itself? Doesn’t the resurrection mean you need to start dabbing lambs blood behind the earhole again?

You don't understand scripture and you don't understand the JWs. . Quoting scripture with no context or concept of why it was asked in the first place doesn't you some big brain genius. Prince wasn't a hypocrite for being a vegetarian (he ate eggs and fish, he wasn't a vegan) and a Christian. . If you are actually curious, feel free to read these articles to learn more about what Prince really believed. https://wol.jw.org/en/wol...&p=par

This is one of the best Prince stories ever to me, because it speaks of what pushed him and his art, that lyrical romanticized sentiment, but also might have limited him in personal life, that headstrong denial of logic. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
