How many Deluxe sets or smaller vault compilations can you handle per yr?! I know we have always been an insatiable community but I wanted to know this. Just how much is enough on an annual basis? If we take the SOTT box set - we will have digested it / watched it to death & studied every aspect of every track by the end of the year. So, if Parade was the next box set & it was released in Feb for example would that be too soon? What if they did a monthly NPG club release too? would that be too much? Clearly the cost to the estate to do more would be huge BUT if they are making a profit on each then it might be viable?
Personally I'd love 2 deluxe box sets,a monthly NPG style subscription including different versions of tracks, video content & vault tracks in chronological sets - imagine THAT! How much funk can you handle in a year?!!

How much funk can you handle in a year?!! . How much good funk can I handle in a year? . Unlimited. . How much of Prince’s vault material can I handle in a year? . Depends on how much Imodium I have on-hand. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

- A remastered SDE every 6 months would be cool.

Once a month would probably just about keep me happy

I wouldn't mind something every month or two. RIP

I think one every quarter or perhaps two a year. More often than that would be difficult to digest all vault tracks.....
Hope that they would also contiue the podcast series hosted by Andrea Swensson for each SDE release.

The $177 (tax, shipping) SDE was a bit high. I could do without the book. I also considered buying the $99 Digital version. Deluxe sets like the 1999 (price range $80) I would definitely buy them twice a year. If they put out more I'm sure I'd buy them too. But I dont expect anything but one release a year, which is better than nothing I will take my place, In the great below

It's according to the price. Two of them per year in the price range of the "1999" deluxe. Andy is a four letter word.

One every four months would be nice.

Vault - Studio material .... endless amounts I could take... live stuff... don't really care 4 it... unless it's soundboard stuff like the Coachella Empty Room ...
my only caveat with the studio stuff is audio quality... The originals was pretty shoddy, so if it's worse than that then pfff... The Earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.

I could afford 10 box set a month, and listening to 120 remixes of Hot Thing and 313 versions of Wonderfulday a quarter.

At a rate of 1 per 6 months, I'll be here into my 50s so let's get the fuck on with it. Nevermind the fans already in their 50s. 💀

I reckon they’ve got it about right. 9 hours of vault stuff plus the live stuff in 3 years. That sort of pattern will do nicely. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

3 total albums per year. 1 per year on the super Deluxe level. 1 deluxe album a year done via pre-order only through the prince official site and Amazon (like 20ten for example) This would be for less popular albums that would not chart and they would not report sales to the charts. This is done not to tarnish the Prince brand for marketing bigger projects. 1 additional album like originals, piano & microphone, or a completed album from the vault not yet released.

One album per month on an NPGMC style premium service. That could be a mix of unreleased time capsule albums, compilations of vault songs, various alternate versions and configurations of albums, live soundboard recordings and rehearsals.

I get free Tidal, so lay it on me, but I think 6 months or 8 months is a good time frame.

The best option for me would be :
- 2 Super Deluxe editions per year (one bigger like SOTT just before Cristmas and the other one more like 1999 SDE) - 1 studio album/compilation from the Vault per year - 1 Originals volume per year (Or maybe add those Originals volumes to the SDE Editions if it's not possible to have them released separatly). SOTT SDE would have been even greater if they had added an Originals volume from this era.) - And last but not least, i'd pay for a year subscription on a new NPGMUSICCLUB that would offer each month studio/rehearsal/video content in the same vein Prince did back in 2001. I mean 5 tracks per month offering underground demos, alt. versions, rehearsals, etc would be cool.
I don't care much about the live stuff, i already have too much of it + no need for more Sony reeditions without extra content. We already have these records + it takes the place of other Vault releases that would be much more attractive for the fans.

I think long term, one major release a year (such as a complete studio session collection) subsidised by a few minor releases (stand alone albums / concerts / aftershows) would be a healthy pace. Around 3 to 4 releases a year in total?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
- I think 3 to 4 releases a year would not be able to gain enough profit for The Estate. All this coasts a lot of money and energy. But for the rest I full agree on what yo propose. I personally see an oportunity with digital platforms as a perfect outlet for Prince's live shows, aftershows, even rehearsals, available only for those who are really interested. - "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. Yeah. NPGMC literally offered about an album's worth of new content every month in its first year. I thought back then it was a good pace. I'd gladly have paid more even. . [Edited 10/15/20 5:07am] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

jfenster said: Maybe they don't want us spending ALL our money on his stuff.... I don't know about them, but I certainly don't. The price of this new box is ridiculous. I decided to pay it this time, but I'm not gonna keep doing it. Just put out a 4 CD set of outtakes for €30, that would be great. Put out a concert, say Detroit 86 on dvd/blue-ray for €20... Throw the whole thing online... There's plenty of ways that you can release things for an affordable price. If you take any of this seriously, you're a bigger fool than I am.

I'm okay with one SDE a year, and maybe a few other projects a year.....how about a live DVD set containing at least one show from all his tours?

all joking apart we are such a bunch of freaks that we would all happiy pay for that!

Have to say that when you add up the estates releases thus far they are stacking up into quite a collection...but there's always room for more!

[Edited 10/15/20 5:07am] The first year was the best, but I do have fond memories of having the NPGMC Year Two rehearsal/aftershow access for the ONA... Live tour in London in 2002. My interaction with Prince in Soho at the first after-party was brief, but very precious to me. But in terms of downloads and monthly excitement, the first year was where it was at. A genuinely wild, pioneering time.
