how will the transfer of rights from WB to Sony affect releases?

Do you think WB are rushing the releases (relatively speaking) at the moment to get them out before the rights expire?

I don't think once a year is rushing, but it's probably best. Some of will undoubtedly be dead before they're all out at this rate.

WB keep their rights on the entire Vault Material recorded by Prince when he was in contract with them....but i heard very recently that a new agreement has been found for the future SPDLX Reissue between WB & Sony ...so we will C ??

My guess is none of us have got the contractual agreements correct.

Putting it bluntly, If I were the CEO of WB music, and I was was going to lose the rights to all Prince material (minus the soundtracks) in 2021, I'd have milked it already. Even if that meant a giant box set of a mish mash material.

You don't simply hand the revenue, however big or small, over to another party for free.

Agreed, it would be ludicrous to not cash in on that wealth of material, we would have seen new SDE's every two or three months likely over the last few years.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

If we don't have the agreement correct it means the Estate made a mistake in their press release announcing 2021. Unlikely.

.

It's very possible that the Estate (Comerica in the end) opposed rushing the process because it didn't fit their own agenda. Then WB was fucked.

As I just said above, they may not have been given a choice.

It'd make sense as both labels would benefit from such an agreement.

It's not the first time the estate would have put out a false statement.

WB won't be sweating any of this. If there is a clause that makes things theirs, then they'll grab it.

Indeed they will. In the future.
