You gotta keep the boot version of "Wonderful Day" as well.

Right as it is totally different.

The boot appears to be an edit of the 12' version appearing on SOTT SDE. It might also be a different mix. The intro at least is slightly different.

Face it, bootleggers have been doing a valuable service all these years. No reason to throw away those CDs yet. Plus there is something about lo fi boots that has a certain allure

I'm not throwing away CDs. I'm deleting redundant digital files from my music library. (Actually, I'm just archiving them, not permanently deleting them.)

i like having all these songs in good quality at last, but tracks like soul psychodelicide is not a song i need to hear more than once. in a sense, whether the bootleggers were just given only the best by whoever leaked them, or bootleggers only picked the best (usually), they were good curators in a sense. has anyone ever interviewed thunderball or sabotage? id love to find out more about them.

there was a camille boot released a few years ago with wally on it.

not sure if anyone here has heard it.

but surely someone must have, so they got there first.

Which bootlegs can we ditch now that they've been officially released in high quality on Sign O' the Times Super Deluxe? And which ones do we need to keep?

.

We can ditch all mixes that are exactly the same as on the SOTT SDE discs.

The rest we can keep.

@UDO, if anyone else wrote this reply you'd be the first person to ridicule them.

Of course we can ditch mixes that are exactly the same. That's the premise of my question.

I'm asking: Which mixes are exactly the same? In other words, let's identify those that are exactly the same.

We can also ditch the old SOTT discs.

The only time I would delete anything would be if:

A. I was short on space.

B. I could be arsed going through it all to delete individual tracks.

C. There is no C.

.

This, totally.

.

My digital music collection is now well over 2 TB. As a result, I've been idly "pruning" duplicate tracks to save space. (Not only on my local drive, but also in my cloud storage.)

.

For instance, I've gone through all my "greatest hits" albums, and deleted any tracks that I already had on their original albums. (Which means I got rid of both Queen "Greatest Hits" albums!) I've also been removing tracks from 12 inchers and CD singles that duplicate tracks from the main albums they came from.

.

Every week, I find myself getting rid of several MBs. Every little bit helps.

.

But with Prince, it's a different level of organizing. Do I hang on to all the different versions of songs I've gotten from boots? Or do I cut everything down so I only have one, clear, pristine version? I'm not sure where this is going to lead me.

Right! I guess because it never had a place on Dream Factory. I always tied All My Dreams to Parade, too. It'll all come out eventually!

I would like to ditch "Can I Play With U?" from digital boots. Problem is that, it's hard diffrentiating the two ("Miles Davis Final Mix" & "Long Version : More Prince Overdubs") that have the same length.

Yes, I had the same exact thought about that song. I was hoping someone with a sharper ear and more patience then me would figure it out and post here (one of the reasons I started this thread).

Awesome thread especially for creating a self compilation of songs not on the side

how about Crucial, I had three versions I think prior to sde , full, guitar and sax

Im in the same place trying to assemble a non-SDE list of tracks to keep.

What would be ideal is a list of non-SDE versions a which bootleg have the best version on.

I started with 5 versions, but I've got it down to 3 now. They're easy to distinguish from the intros:

4:10 Prince says "No!" after a quick bit of trumpet and guitar

6:27 Starts with Miles' trumpet

6:39 Starts with guitar (SDE version, which was the same as the Final Mix and one I had called Rough Mix - except they didn't include Miles speaking at the end)

Do you have something else?

Agreed for

4:10 Prince says "No!" after a quick bit of trumpet and guitar

6:27 Starts with Miles' trumpet

but

I have also:

6:34: Miles Davis Final Mix

6:35: Long Version : More Prince Overdubs

So which one is same as SDE?

6:34: Miles Davis Final Mix is identical to SDE apart from the fact its missing Miles talking at the end, which accounts for the 5 second difference.

I have no idea about the Long Version. It's possible it's also the same as SDE, but you'll have to listen to it to check.

The trumpet on the 4:10 version is Miles, right?

I thought I remembed reading somewhere that there's a version of this song that's just Prince, before miles input. But that's not what this is, right? That's definitely Miles and not Matt Bliss, right?

Someone pointed out on another thread that the version of Visions on SOTT SDE is slightly different than the circulating bootleg in that it's missing the first note.
